In the MCU, Sam Wilson is now Captain America, but without the super-serum, how does he perform extraordinary feats? Actor Anthony Mackie has explained all.

How does he do that?

When the trailer for Captain America: Brave New World was released earlier in the year, we got a taste of the action we can look forward when the movie is released next year. But there was one thing that got fans talking. Sam Wilson is now Captain America, but how does he perform the sort of actions seen in the trailer, that would be beyong an ordinary human, when he doesn’t have the super-serum, as his predecessor, Steve Rogers, did?

Well, Anthony Mackie, who plays Wilson, has now explained everything: Captain America has a new high-tech suit.

Speaking at the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore, Mackie revealed that Cap got the suit from some old friends, as reported by Deadline. “I went to Wakanda, met with everybody in Wakanda, we had dinner,” he said. “It was a great time. They threw me a welcome party. It was dope. But when I was leaving, they gave me a suit, right? I put it on. I can kick harder, I can fly faster, and it gives me the ability to be more agile in my skills, so its taking all my skills to a completely different level.”

Realistic feel

Mackie also noted that his version of Captain America is grounded in a more ‘realistic’ world, compared to some of the other movies in the MCU. “This movie stays in the line with the original Captain America, of that thrill, of that espionage, of that grounded nature with storytelling and really investing the actual audience into the story,” he said.

Captain America: Brave New World is Wilson’s first outing as Cap, having taken over the mantle from Rogers at the end of Avengers: Endgame. It is also Wilson’s first solo outing, having previously been Falcon in numerous MCU movies. The movie hits theaters on February 14, 2025.
