Sarah Michelle Gellar has teased that filming is under way for the new movie in the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise.

Not Scooby Doo 3

Posting on Instagram, Gellar shared a picture of a chair with the I Know What You Did Last Summer logo on, seemingly from the film set. It was accompanied by a jokey caption ‘Scooby Doo 3 coming soon’.

This references another film franchise that Gellar was part of back in the late 1990s – but that definitely isn’t happening.

But what is happening is that Gellar’s husband, Freddie Prinze Jr, is reprising his role from the first two films, which were released in 1997 and 98. Prinze Jr will again play Bronson in the movie from Sony Pictures. Other actors so far confirmed include Chase Sui Wonders (best known for Bodies Bodies Bodies), Tyriq Withers (Atlanta), Sarah Pidgeon (Tiny Beautiful Things) and Madelyn Cline (Outer Banks).

Jennifer Love Hewitt is also believed to be in talks to reprise her role of Julie James.

Continuity

Gellar’s character, Helen Shivers, is not returning, mostly because she was killed in the original movie. However, Gellar is on set, not just to support her husband, but also her best friend, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who is directing the film.

In a recent interview with People, Gellar joked that she has an unofficial role behind the scenes as ‘continuity’. “I’m always the one telling her ‘Well, that would happen, or that wouldn’t happen with those characters,” she said.

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer is set to hit theaters on July 18, 2025.
