- Series about political dealings in feudal Japan has set a new record for a season of a TV shows
- Series has a chance to extend the record at the main Emmys ceremony
- The Bear, Jamie Lee Curtis and Maya Rudolph were other big winners at the ceremony

Those present at the Creative Arts Emmys could be forgiven for having a sense of déjà vu as Shogun took an unprecedented number of awards at the ceremony.
Record breaker
Shogun, which airs on FX, took 14 awards – the most ever for a single season of a TV show. Indeed, the show only missed out in two categories on the night. Its wins included categories such as costumes, makeup, editing and cinematography.
The Creative Arts Emmys is a prelude to the main Primetime Emmys and features awards given in categories that don’t make it into the latter ceremony, which takes place later this month.
The previous record belonged to the limited series John Adams and had lasted since 2008. Shogun could extend its new record at the Primetime Emmys, where it is nominated in a further five categories.
Shogun is a historical fiction series set in feudal Japan and is based on James Clavell’s 1975 novel. It sees the collision of two men from different worlds English sailor John Blackthorne and Lord Toranaga, a powerful daimyo. Lady Mariko, a woman with crucial skills but dishonorable family ties, also plays a significant role. Hiroyuki Sanada stars as Toranaga, Cosmo Jarvis plays Blackthorne and Anna Sawai plays Mariko.
Other big winners
Other big winners at the Creative Arts Emmys included The Bear, which took home seven awards, including one for best guest actress in a comedy series for Jamie Lee Curtis.
Elsewhere Maya Rudolph took home her sixth Emmy, winning for her voice work on Big Mouth. Meanwhile Angela Bassett picked up her first Emmy for her narration of wildlife documentary series Queens.
