The family business
While fans digest Trap, it’s not just Shyamalan who is making a name for himself in the genre – as his daughter, Ishana, also released a movie this year.
The filmmaker, 23, is the brains behind The Watchers, which hit cinemas on June 7 this year.
Starring Dakota Fanning as artist Mina, the movie is based on the novel by A. M. Shine – who even makes a cameo in the film – and is about a group of strangers who are trapped in a forest in western Ireland, unable to leave thanks to mysterious creatures who stalk, terrorize, and observe them each night.
Of course, Mina just has to find out more about these strange beasts – who no one has ever glimpsed and lived to tell the tale afterwards – which only angers. But when her bird, who supposedly cannot talk, suddenly pipes up with, “Try not to die”, you know the movie is set to have you on the edge of your seat, and hiding behind your hands.
