- Alien star set to return to space for role in The Mandalorian and Grogu
- Shooting for the film set to start this summer, with a May 2026 release slated
- Jon Favreau is directing the film, with Pedro Pascal reprising his role as Din Djarin

Sigourney Weaver is a sci-fi icon thanks to her performances in the Alien series, but now she is reportedly signing up to join another famous franchise – Star Wars.
Weaver, as reported by multiple sources, is in talks to join the cast of The Mandalorian and Grogu, the big-screen spin-off from the hugely successful Disney+ series The Mandalorian. In other casting news, Marvel has added Natasha Lyonne to the Fantastic Four cast, sparking curiosity about her role. Michelle Yeoh has been confirmed as the first cast member for “Blade Runner 2099,” and Thandiwe Newton has joined the Series Two cast of “Wednesday.“
Unrevealed role
While the role Weaver might play hasn’t been revealed, to sign up such a legend augurs well for the film – she is choosy about which movies she appears in,
Weaver has had a long and successful Hollywood career but is arguably best-known playing Ellen Ripley in the sci-fi horror series Alien. She has also appeared in films such as Avatar, Ghostbusters and Galaxy Quest, among many others.
Shooting soon
The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to start filming this summer, with an anticipated big screen release of May 2026. Jon Favreau is in the director’s chair – he has also written the script – while Pedro Pascal will reprise his role of the bounty hunter Din Djarin. Plotlines have, understandably, been kept under wraps so far.
This film is the first big screen outing for the Star Wars franchise since 2019 and the conclusion of the Rise of Skywalker trilogy.
