- Ryan Coogler’s vampire film is making history
- Sinners took another $45 million at the box office
- One of the lowest second weekend drops of all time

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners is making history.
The Michael B. Jordan led vampire horror has been a runaway success train since it was released. Opening to a tidal wave of glowing reviews, Sinners took in $48 million on its opening weekend.
This weekend, the film was projected to take in somewhere around $20-$25 million. Given Ben Affleck-led The Accountant 2 was released this weekend, it felt like a fair and accurate prediction.
Sinners Sinks Teeth Into Weekend Box Office Once Again
Instead, Sinners held firm almost miraculously well. In fact, the supernatural period piece continues to reign atop the box office, taking another $45 million. In doing so, Coogler’s latest effort recorded a drop of just 6%. One of the smallest second weekend drops in cinema history for a movie playing outside of the year-end holidays.
This is the smallest second weekend decline for a film that opened above $40 million since Avatar in 2009. It is also the smallest decline ever for an R-Rated title. So far, Sinners has taken $122.5 million domestically and $161.6 million globally. An astonishing accomplishment for a film that was initially dismissed by some within the industry as a likely money loser.
Given Sinners was produced on a $90 million budget, it is going to go above and beyond anything Warner Bros could have wished to expect in terms of box office success.

Commercial and Critical Success
And it’s not just from a commercial standpoint where the film is drawing its success from. The critics have gone wild for Sinners too. On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently stands at 98% certified fresh from 316 reviews. Over 10,000 fans have reviewed it on the platform, leaving it with 97% on the Popcornmeter. Combined, these two scores average out at the same as The Godfather.
As per Culture Crave, as it stands, Sinners is on track to make over $300 million at the box office. Which would be an incredible achievement for an R-Rated horror film. Film Updates on X, meanwhile, claims Sinners is en route to becoming one of the top 10 highest grossing R-Rated movies of all time at the domestic box office.
