In a press release published on Wednesday, Spotify announced not only the new snooze button feature but also a revamped queue and new customization options within your ‘liked songs.’
New Spotify features
The new features – perhaps unsurprisingly – will initially be made available to Premium users only. They plan to “bring it to more users,” though, so it’s probably just a matter of time until it’s rolled out to the free accounts.
The new snooze button is one of the standout features from the update. It will be a welcome addition to millions around the world who are just fed up of being served up the same tune over and over.
It becomes available when you hit “smart shuffle” on one of your existing playlists. You can then eliminate specific tracks from the expanded playlist and have the option to stop it from being suggested again for 30 days.
The music streaming app also has also given its queue a makeover with a new design that includes shuffle, smart shuffle, repeat, and sleep timer options.
And if you want to see what’s coming up after your queued music finishes, you can now view Spotify’s recommended songs in advance to avoid any surprises – like that breakup song you definitely don’t need to hear without warning.
Another standout new feature is the ability to filter your ‘liked songs’ by genre and create a new playlist from the filtered results. Essentially, with just a couple of taps, you can have all your ‘liked’ hip-hop, thrash metal, or musical theatre tracks bundled into separate playlists. This one is only available for users in the US, Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK.
Are Premium prices increasing?
No, there’s been no news on subscription prices changing. It was only last Summer when Spotify increased the monthly subscription prices of its premium plans.
The price of Spotify’s Individual plan increased by $1 per month to $11.99, while the cost of Spotify’s Duo plan jumped $2 per month to $16.99. The monthly rate of Spotify’s Family plan rose $3 per month to $19.99. Spotify’s discounted Student plan remained unchanged, priced at $5.99 per month.
At the time, they said the price increase would allow the company to “continue to invest in and innovate on our product features and bring users the best experience.”
It’s fair to say they’ve delivered on that promise – just as long as news doesn’t break soon of another price hike.
