Spotify is a streaming service that has revolutionised how millions of people listen to music. It gave the entire history of music to anyone willing to pay a subscription fee.

However, for the gag to work, it must all run smoothly. Well, it didn’t work on Wednesday, 16 April, as the system appeared to be not working. Millions were unable to listen to their carefully curated playlists.

The difficulty was confirmed by the company, who urged users that they were working on fixing the outage.

They wrote on the social media site X, “We’re aware of some issues right now and are checking them out.”

How did the internet react to Spotify going down?

As you can imagine, not well! it is one of the most-used music apps in the world. If its annual Wrapped feature is anything to go by, it has a very vocal and online customer base, who like to let you know how they feel.

Many went back to basics, opting to stream bootlegs on Soundcloud.

Someone wrote, “this is saving me whilst spotify is down,” on a SZA concert recorded and uploaded to the site.

Others took it as a “sign” that their hitting the books wasn’t meant to be.

Another person was left with one song being played over and over again.

Others just couldn’t take it

There were a lot of memes of flipping tables, the international sign of having had it.

“Spotify come back,” someone pleaded.

“How no Spotify has me feeling,” another said.

Many threatened to move to their competition

Some people threatened to leave the streaming service and go to their competition services like Apple Music.

“Yall got 20 mins until I become an Apple Music user.”
