Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has praised the K-pop star T.O.P AKA Choi Seung-hyun for both his acting and bravery after a drug scandal in 2017.
The South Korean dystopian horror series first debuted in 2021 and became one of Netflix’s most popular products. It stars Lee Jung-hae, Jung Ho-yeon, Yim Si-Wan, Park Gyu-young and others.

The second season landed over the festive period and featured many new characters. One of them is Thanos, played by T.O.P.
The singer is best known for being a K-pop star. He started his musical career in the group BIGBANG but left in 2022.
Notably, Seung faced legal issues over his use of cannabis in 2019. After being found guilty, Seung was released from a two-year probation in 2019.
What did the Squid Game creator say about his new star?
Dong-hyuk lauded the pop star-turned-actor for his performance and how he has pieced his reputation back together after all the legal drama.
He told PEOPLE magazine, “As you may know, Choi Seung-hyun was embroiled in a marijuana controversy about nine years ago, which made it impossible for him to participate in any projects in Korea. Squid Game 2 is his return to acting after a long hiatus.“
Much was made about Seung-hyun’s character having similar problems by Dwong-hyuk.

“In particular, he plays a character who is a rapper and a drug user. In some ways, I think it must have taken a great deal of courage for Choi Seung Hyun to take on this role, especially since the character shares many negative similarities with his personal experiences.
“I believe it required a lot of bravery to step into that character,” he added.
“Despite his long break, as a director, I found his acting to be very impressive, and I am extremely satisfied with how he portrayed the character.”
When is Squid Game season three coming?
There has been no confirmation about the official date of the third series. However, there have been some hints from its creator.
Dwong-hyuk recently teased to Variety that it could be coming sooner than you think, hinting at a potential spring-summer 2025 release.
“At this point, anything I might say is going to be a spoiler, so I want to be cautious. But what I can say is, after Season 2 launches, I believe we will be announcing the launch date for Season 3 soon. I probably expect that to launch around summer or fall next year,” he told the outlet.
Again, nothing has been set in stone by Netflix or anyone else connected to the show. Fingers crossed, it is not another three-year wait.
