- New episodes are set to land on Netflix later this month

Strap in because Squid Game season 2 is almost here – and according to its star, we haven’t seen anything yet.
Speaking to People, South Korean actor Lee Jung-jae – who plays the show’s reluctant hero Seong Gi-hun – dropped some tantalizing tidbits about new episodes.
In addition to explaining that Squid Game season 2 will be full of “twists and turns”, he also compared this season’s deadly games to a form of “psychological warfare.”

“So I can tell you for sure that you’re in for even more surprises, because there are games within games, and I call them psychological warfare,” Jung-jae told the outlet.
“We have so much of them in season 1. So at one time, you’ll be enemies, the two will be enemies, and then the other time, they will be friends. So you don’t know what’s going to happen.”
“There’s so many twists and turns, so you’re in for a big surprise,” he added cryptically.
Elsewhere, the star commented on the support he’s received from fans since the first season’s 2020 debut. It’s something that’s kept him going while audiences have had to wait four years for more episodes.
“I want to say that I know that lots of fans are rooting for us,” added Jung-jae. “They love us, and what I really feel special about Squid Game is that I not only have Korean fans now, but people all across the globe noticed me and they love me. So I really like that.”
When is Squid Game season 2 released?

Squid Game season 2 will be released on Netflix worldwide on Wednesday 26 December 2024.
The show features the return of Jung-jae’s Gi-hun. This gambler-turned-Squid Game champion won the show’s previous game by making it out as the sole survivor.
If you’re somehow unaware of what this show is about, Squid Game pits down-on-their-luck players against each other in a series of deadly playground games. Winners move on to the next round while losers lose their lives while adding to the overall game jackpot.
Despite becoming one of Netflix’s most-watched shows of all time, series’ creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk reportedly wasn’t paid all that much for the show. It’s something that he claims convinced him to return for more episodes.
“Even though the first series was such a huge global success, honestly I didn’t make much. So doing the second series will help compensate me for the success of the first one too,” Dong-hyuk the BBC.
However, there were a few creative reasons too, with the director adding that he “didn’t fully finish the story.”
What do we know about Squid Game season 3?

A third season of Squid Game was filmed back-to-back with Squid Game season 2. It will land on the streamer at some point in 2025 although we don’t currently know when.

Squid Game season 1 arrived in mid-September with season 2 landing in late December. It’s currently unclear how long Netflix will make us wait to watch Gi-hun’s story come to a close. However, after making audiences wait four years for a second outing, we doubt they’d have them wait too long for Squid Game season 3.
As for its plot, until Squid Game season 2 debuts, we don’t know what circumstances will lead into Dong-hyuk’s final series. That said, we do know that Squid Game season 3 will finish the story once and for all.
