As production begins on Happy Gilmore 2, Netflix has confirmed that two beloved characters from the original movie will return for the sequel.

Hoped for returns

After speculation ever since the announcement that Happy Gilmore 2 was in the works, it has finally been confirmed that Shooter McGavin – Happy Gilmore’s nemesis on the putting green – will be returning in the sequel. Also returning will be Virginia Venit, Happy’s girlfriend.

In addition, the actors that portrayed the characters in the first film will be back to play them again. Christopher McDonald will be McGavin, while Julie Bowen will be Venit. Netflix confirmed the news in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Meanwhile, Adam Sandler, who plays the titular hero, confirmed earlier this week on Instagram that production on the movie had begun. He posted a shot of Gilmore’s Boston Bruins jersey, along with a famous quote from the first film: “It aint over. The way I see it… we’ve only just begun.

Cameos confirmed

Another star to join the cast is hip-hop star Bad Bunny. Bad Bunny had the first all-Spanish language album to top the Billboard 200 in 2020. He has also made occasional appearances in WWE, including the 2022 Royal Rumble.

Sandler has previously revealed that Travis Kelce – NFL star and Taylor’s Swift’s boyfriend – will be making a cameo. “We have a nice something for Travis,” Sandler told Jimmy Fallon on his talk show. “he’s gonna come by. Very nice guy, you guys would love him in real life. What a big handsome guy. Funny and cool as hell.”

A release date for Happy Gilmore 2 hasn’t been announced yet, but it is expected to land some time in 2026.
