Golden State Warriors’ Steph Curry has overtaken NBA legend – and long-standing critic of his team – Charles Barkley in the all-time NBA points list.

In the third quarter of the Warriors’ game against the Boston Celtics, Curry scored his 23,747th point, which took him past Barkley’s total and into the top 30 all-time NBA points scorers. Curry also reached the milestone in more than 100 games fewer than Barkley took.

Long-standing beef

The milestone has added significance given the history of beef between the two.

NBA Hall of Famer Barkley has criticised Curry on several occasions over the years for his performances. He has also claimed that Curry would not have been as effective had he played in Magic Johnson’s era in the 1990s.

Although the relationship may be softening as one TNT analyst suggested Barkley’s recent digs were more tongue-in-cheek. Back in the summer, he called Curry a “coward” for “ducking him” and not appearing at a celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe that he was taking part in. Curry was competing in the Olympics in Paris at the time.

Barkley did add sincerely afterwards that there was “nothing better” than competing at the Olympics – which he did on two occasions.

All-time NBA points scorers

However, Curry still has a long way to go to get into the top 10 all-time points scorers in the NBA. Carmelo Anthony sits in 10th currently with 27,409 points. Interestingly, Curry is one of only three men in the top 30-point scorers to have played fewer than 1,000 games – Allen Iverson and Jerry West being the others.

The man at the top of the all-time NBA points scorer list, LeBron James, recently made headlines when he appeared in the same match as his son, Bronny. The pre-season game saw the LA Lakers take on the Phoenix Suns, and the father-and-son were on the court at the same time – a first for the NBA.
