Stranger Things season 5 is getting closer and fans are convinced they’ve guessed a major spoiler for the final series.
Production on the show’s final outing has been underway throughout 2024. With filming nearing its end, Netflix has teased viewers about what’s in store.
Wednesday 6 November was Stranger Things Day, the same date that Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) disappeared into the Upside Down in 2016’s first season. To celebrate, the streamer revealed the titles of all eight season five episodes.

Well, almost all. The second half of the second title is mysteriously blurred out, with Netflix only revealing The Disappearance of [blurred out].
Naturally, Stranger Things addicts have wasted no time guessing which character may be at risk – and with no fan-favourite immune from the Upside Down – the net was cast wide.
Could it be Eleven? Mike? Dustin? Steve? It didn’t take long for fans on social media to share their best guesses, ultimately convincing themselves that they’d figured out this major twist.

Reddit users quickly suggested that this ominous title could be referring to Holly Wheeler, AKA Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and Nancy’s (Natalia Dyer) younger sister.
“I love how they keep making a mystery out of Episode 2 when we’re already pretty much certain it’s gonna be Holly,” explained one Reddit user.
“The Vanishing of… Holly Wheeler… kinda silly they blurred it but whatever,” added another.
Holly Wheeler was played by twins Anniston and Tinsley Price in the show’s first season although due to the show’s numerous time jumps, some characters were recast, one of which was Holly Wheeler.
We already know that Stranger Things season five will have the biggest time jump to date, bringing the action to the fall of 1987.
Joining the show in the Price twins’ place is Nell Fisher who will be playing the character moving forward.
Fisher has a history with horror movies. Previously, she starred in 2023’s Evil Dead Rise, setting the scene for a larger role for the character in Stranger Things’ final adventure.
Fan theories
Meanwhile, Stranger Things fans have picked apart some other episode titles.
“The Bridge is likely what the Upside Down actually is. It’s the Bridge between Dimension X and Hawkins,” pondered a fan on Reddit.
“They weren’t lying about going full circle. 108 the upside down 508 The Rightside Up,” said another, commenting on how episode numbers from the show’s first season mirror its last.
“I am scared for Will or Eleven now,” they added.
Another fan thinks that Eleven, Mike and the Hawkins crew might be going up against a “nightmare bat God” in season five. This is based on the episode entitled Camezotz.
“In Dungeons & Dragons, Camazotz is a nightmare bat god. Camazotz is based on the Mayan bat god of the same name, who appears in the Popol Vuh and is still a significant figure in the Maya religion.”
We’ll have to wait until 2025 to find out if any of these rumours are true.
