Set for release in July, the film stars David Corenswet (The Politician) as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as the villainous Lex Luthor.
The new trailer kicks off with Lois Lane interviewing Clark Kent, giving us a glimpse of Corenswet effortlessly changing his voice between the two personas. It’s a move that highlights a more human, vulnerable take on the iconic hero – and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by fans. His on-screen chemistry with Brosnahan is also already winning people over.
Superman trailer reactions
X users shared their initial reactions, and many are on the same page about Corenswet’s acting abilities. In short, it’s a big thumbs up – and a refreshing take on a superhero who’s traditionally been portrayed as, well… a man of steel emotionally.
One user wrote: “I can’t believe we’re getting a movie where Superman has a personality and isn’t just extremely stoic the whole time”.
Another said: “bro i f****** love how Clark seems like a real and genuine person with emotions again #Superman”, with another appreciating the voice change, “’Am I the only one who thinks it’s cool how David vocally switches between being Clark Kent & Superman?”.
Others were glad to see Superman finally showing some heart, especially after Lane hits him with some tough, no-nonsense questions in the interview.
“Man I know this is ‘Superman in modern time’” but it makes me tear up to see him FIGHT BACK against the idea that he shouldn’t be Superman. PASSION and LOVE is what makes Superman one of us.”
Chemistry
Corenswet and Brosnahan brief moments together at the start of the trailer was enough to spark reactions about their chemistry.
One X user wrote: “Starting your big Superman superhero trailer with two people talking in a room while having insane chemistry. Is superhero cinema back?”
Another said: “Even if I’m not completely sold on the visual aesthetics, James Gunn seems to nail the characterization of Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane. David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan so easily slip into their roles. Their chemistry was my favorite part of the trailer”.
One user simply said: “Superman. Miss Lane. what chemistry these two have. #superman”
While fans are excited about Corenswet as the new Superman, there’s still a large corner of the internet supporting Henry Cavill as the original Man of Steel. Cavill first took on the role in Man of Steel (2013) and returned in Batman v Superman, Justice League, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. While his performance was widely praised, some felt it was a bit too serious and lacked emotional depth.
Superman hits U.S. theaters on 11 July and arrives in the U.K. on 9 July.
