New Michael Jackson documentary Surviving Michael Jackson AKA Leaving Neverland 2 has revealed details of how American viewers can watch. 

The film is a follow up to Leaving Neverland. This feature-length documentary original aired on British broadcaster Channel 4 back in 2019.

Directed by Dan Reed, the film explored allegations of sexual abuse linked to the King of Pop. It also featured new interviews with two people who claim they were abused while they were still minors. 

This two-part film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2019 before airing on Channel 4 in the UK. In the United States, the film aired on HBO.

Leaving Neverland made waves among Jackson’s fanbase. Some organised protests against its accusations levelled at the star, and the Jackson estate sued HBO. The channel ended up losing the case which is why is why film’s American release date remained up in the air. 

How to watch Surviving Michael Jackson in America

Surviving Michael Jackson AKA Leaving Neverland 2 will be available to watch on YouTube for audiences in America and Canada, according to Variety

The same outlet reported that the documentary has been aquirred by Little Dot Studios and will premiere on their premium documentary YouTube Channel Real Stories. 

An exact release date has not yet been confirmed. Currently, Surviving Michael Jackson is set to debut on 18 March 2025 on Channel 4. According to Little Dot Studios, the film will become available on YouTube “shortly afterwards”. 

Speaking about its decision to release the movie on YouTube, the company highlighted how they wanted the film to be accessible to as many people as possible.

As per their press release, the decision was made to make sure “the film reaches a wide and diverse audience by leveraging its growing dominance as a platform for long-form viewing.”

What is Leaving Neverland 2 about?

Surviving Michael Jackson will revisit Wade Robson and James Safechuck, the two people at the focus of 2019’s Leaving Neverland. Both previously shared their claims of alleged sexual abuse by Jackson while they were under age. 

In the new documentary, Robson and Safechuck will talk readers through their “ongoing legal battle, the resulting personal toll and the backlash they faced from Jackson’s global fanbase. 

The synopsis continues, explaining that it boasts “exclusive access to court hearings” and will chronicle “how MJJ Productions and MJJ Ventures fought to prevent the case from reaching trial.”
