Grand Theft Auto fans are patient people – they have already waited 11 years for a new game – but it seems that this patience is not going to be tested further as the release date for GTA 6 remains fall of next year.

Rumors had surfaced online that the release date for the hugely anticipated game could slip to 2026, fuelled by an order earlier in the year by Rockstar Games for its developers to return to the office. In addition, there were worries that the decision by the SAG-AFTRA union, which represents voice and motion capture actors, to take the action after negotiations over a new contract broke down over the use of artificial intelligence could delay voiceover work on the game. However, Take-Two, which owns Rockstar Games, reconfirmed that the date has not moved in its latest financial results.

However, the company did not provide any more updates about GTA 6, which is in keeping with Rockstar, which has said very little about the game since a trailer dropped late last year.

As to when we might get a concrete release date – rather than just sometime between September and November 2025 – Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick remains coy. When asked if we might have an update in the next three months, he told Variety, “I guess we’ll see.”

Likewise, there has been no word on when – or if – a second trailer will be released. There are hopes there will be one before Christmas – maybe to coincide with a release date announcement – but neither company is saying anything.

The radio silence is understandable. GTA 6 is set to be the biggest game release of all time, and by saying nothing now, it only increases the speculation – and anticipation – for it.
