Aside from all the awards, there were also some noteworthy moments in the form of musical performances and the speeches. Some were emotional, some were funny and some were just plain unexpected.
Let’s dive in…
David Tennant singing I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)
The night’s host kicked off the ceremony with a bonkers performance of The Proclaimers’ ’80s hit, starting backstage before greeting the crowd. He even wore a kilt at one point during his song.
He even passed the mic to a couple of celebrities in the audience, including Camila Cabello, who sang along with particular enthusiasm.
Some of the Americans in the audience were a bit confused by this very British opening – but it went down a storm nonetheless.
Saoirse Ronan reveals she’s a Take That stan
Saoirse Ronan got quite excited when Take That came up to perform. They sang Greatest Day in reference to its inclusion in the film Anora.
As they came up to perform, Ronan grabbed Tennant’s mic and shouted, “I’ve seen you twice!” at them.
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo were also spotted dancing along to their performance.
Warwick Davis’ emotional acceptance speech
Warwick Davis paid tribute to his late wife Samantha, who died in March 2024, in an emotional speech for a Bafta Fellowship award.
“Above all I would like to dedicate and thank my wonderful wife Sammy, who died almost a year ago,” he said. “She was always so supportive of my career, encouraging me to grab every opportunity with both hands.
“However, I soon noticed that her level of enthusiasm for me taking a particular role was often relative to how much she wanted that new designer handbag.”
“Since then, life has been pretty tough for me,” Davis continued. “But thanks to the support of our wonderful children, Annabelle and Harrison, I’ve been able to continue working and engaging in life.”
Jeff Goldblum plays piano
Jeff Goldblum’s musical chops outside of acting are well known and he got to show it off during the BAFTAs’ In Memoriam segment.
He performed As Time Goes By as those in attendees took a moment to remember those in entertainment that died this year.
Zoe Saldana pays tribute to the trans community
Although Emilia Perez has been mired in controversy, Zoe Saldana’s speech shed light on her reasons for doing the film.
Saldana dedicated her award for Best Supporting Actress to her trans nephew, Eli Saldaña.
“He is the reason — they are the reason — I signed up to do this film in the first place. As a proud aunt of a trans life, I will always stand with my trans community.’
