A star of the hit show The Boys has asked for fans to respect actors’ boundaries after an uncomfortable situation arose at a fan convention.

Inappropriate request

Valorie Curry, who plays Firecracker on The Boys, posted a story to her Instagram account that detailed an encounter with two fans at Comic Con Northern Ireland. She mentioned the fans became “angry” when she didn’t agree to an “inappropriate” request they made to her.

Curry said that while her character on The Boys said and did “some pretty extreme things” she added “it’s not okay and its not funny to demand those things from me in person.”

Curry had attended the Comic Con event, held in Belfast, on her own. While he noted that “by-and-large everyone was fantastic” there were a few who pushed boundaries.

Talk about boundaries

“Everyone, for the most part, has been so lovely and so kind and so respectful – it’s been really wonderful,” Curry added. “But we do need to talk about boundaries and what is appropriate in terms of behaviour.

“I know people saw a character that I play do some pretty extreme things on The Boys. I don’t care if you’re in costume, I don’t care if you are in character. It’s not okey and its not funny to demand those things from me in person at my booth.”

She added that she made clear to the people involved that she was not comfortable with the situation. “Honestly, you should know better,” she added. “Everybody else knows better. I don’t know what reaction you were looking for. Nobody was laughing.”

The convention organizers, Monopoly Events, issued at statement to the BBC, saying they have a “zero tolerance policy” to this sort of behaviour and that anybody who feels harassed should contact a member of the security team.
