One of the most pressing questions after The Witcher 4 announcement is, if fans will ever get to see Geralt of Rivia the iconic white-haired monster slayer who remained as the central figure in the series.
Ciri’s Era Rises, Yet Geralt’s Legacy Looms Large
On the Game Awards Show 2024 fans finally got their first glimpse of the new installment through a cinematic trailer that confirmed its official title and, most importantly, introduced Ciri as the main protagonist.
While some are happy to set out on a journey with a new main character, offering a distinct sense of gameplay, others are concerned that: will Geralt make an appearance in The Witcher 4.
Previously in November 2024, Geralt’s voice actor— Doug Cockle mentioned the character’s involvement in the game but no definite information was given regarding the role.
Hints of a Return
However, CD Projekt Red has dropped some interesting hints. During an interview with IGN, Cian Maher— a franchise and lore designer at CDPR, shared some intriguing and hopeful remarks when asked about Geralt’s potential return. He said,
“Geralt will probably be around for a long time. In [prequel novel] Season of Storms, there is an epilogue. It takes place in Magpie Forest in 1373, 101 years after The Witcher 3. And in that epilogue, there is a certain white-haired Witcher hunting a monster who remains unnamed, but who behaves in a certain way. And obviously, he has white hair. I think we can expect Geralt to be around for a long time. The capacity in which he does is… we’ll see. But I don’t think he’s going anywhere.”
It seems like Ciri will take center stage, and Geralt will remain to be an integral part of the narrative. Recently the CDPR Game Director has also shared the cinematic trailer’s breakdown, sharing the darkest realities of The Witcher world.
For now, fans eagerly await more details about the game and any signs of a former beloved character in the upcoming chapter of this spectacular series.
