She’s one of the world’s most revered actors. 

But even stars like Dame Helen Mirren sometimes say the most unhinged things.

In a podcast interview, the Oscar-winner, 79, admitted she considered herself lucky to have lived long enough to witness dramatic technological advances.

But things took a strange turn when Mirren compared her experience to Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, who died by suicide, aged 27.

“I always say it’s so sad that Kurt Cobain died when he did,” she said. “Because he never saw GPS, as it’s the most wonderful thing to watch my little blue spot walking down the street. I just find it completely magical and unbelievable.”

Bizarrely, this isn’t the first time Mirren has referenced Cobain in an interview. 

Ten years ago, she told Oprah Winfrey, “Look at Kurt Cobain – he hardly even saw a computer! The digital stuff that’s going on is so exciting. I’m just so curious about what happens next.”

In 2015, Mirren admitted to Cosmopolitan, “I was thinking about Kurt Cobain the other day and he died without knowing the internet, and I’m totally blown away by that.”

And the following year, she told the Daily Mail, “If I’d died at 27, the age that Kurt Cobain died in 1994, I’d never have even known there was an internet! Incredible things are happening all the time and I can’t wait to see what comes next.”

While Mirren’s comments seem a bit, well, weird, she’s certainly not the only celebrity to say something strange during an interview.

When once asked what his “favorite chick flick” is, the actor had fans in stitches when he replied, “Chicken Run is the only thing coming into my head.”

Woody Harrelson

Acting legend Woody Harrelson may want to have a rethink about how into his roles he gets. 

After allegedly pushing a TMZ photographer at an airport, the star, 63, blamed his actions on mistaking the photographer for a zombie. 

“I wrapped a movie called Zombieland, in which I was constantly under assault by zombies, then flew to New York, still very much in character,” Harrelson said. “With my daughter at the airport I was startled by a paparazzo, who I quite understandably mistook for a zombie.”

Prince 

The late, great musician Prince was always spouting strange quotes – but our fave is one that was given second hand.

According to Julia Stiles, Prince invited the cast of The Bourne Ultimatum to one of his gigs.

After the show, they were “summoned into a room to meet him.” Attempting to make small talk, Matt Damon asked Prince, “So you live in Minnesota? I hear you live in Minnesota.” 

Prince apparently replied, “I live inside my own heart, Matt Damon.”

Demi Lovato

Some celeb quotes are just so dumb that it brings a tear to your eye. 

When asked what her “favorite dish” is, Demi Lovato, 32, once answered, “I like mugs because they’re very comfortable in your hand and they hold hot things that you don’t have to touch, so, you know, coffee, hot tea.” Perfection.

Gwyneth Paltrow 

Health queen Gwynnie, 52, has talked about everything from vaginal steaming to ‘rectal ozone therapy’ (don’t ask). 

But one thing she absolutely will not do is eat processed food. 

“I would rather die than let my kid eat Cup-a-Soup,” she said. 

Kim Kardashian

The Kardashians are a goldmine for mad quotes, but queen bee Kim has given some corkers over the years. 

After claiming she can “smell cavities” and that she has “never been wrong yet” about sniffing them out, the star, 44, also revealed that she would go to great lengths to stay looking youthful. 

“If you told me that I literally had to eat poop every single day and I would look younger, I might. I just might,” she told the New York Times. 

Kardashian later claimed she was “kind of joking,” but added, “But now that I think about it, I would probably eat shit if someone told me, ‘If you eat this bowl of poop every single day, you’ll look younger.'” 

However, she could only eat “just a bite,” saying, “I don’t think I can do a whole bowl.” Well, that’s a relief. 

Harry Styles

God bless Harry Styles. 

The pop star, 30, has enjoyed a handful of acting roles, including the lead part of Jack in 2022’s Don’t Worry, Darling. 

And – much to the chagrin of his co-star, Chris Pratt – Styles gave a hell of a quote during a press junket for the movie.

“You know, my favorite thing about the movie is, like, it feels like a movie. It feels like a real, like, you know, ‘go to the theater’ film movie,” he said. 

Kesha

Celebs are always up for trying weird and wonderful treatments (again, read back to Gwyneth Paltrow’s segment). 

And Kesha, 37, is no different. 

Showing off her favorite keepsake, the singer said, “It’s my placenta. My mom found it in my basement, crushed up, and made into a necklace that I wear every day to improve my psychic abilities.”

David Beckham 

He may have been a legend on the soccer pitch, but David Beckham is perhaps not the brightest button in the box.

After the birth of his first son Brookyln, now 25, Becks, 49, revealed, “I definitely want Brooklyn to be christened… but I don’t know into what religion yet.” Yes, you read that right. 

Sienna Miller 

As one of the most glamorous women in the industry, it’s no wonder that Sienna Miller jumped on the noughties It-Girl smoking hype. 

But according to the actor, 42, it’s all about your mindset when it comes to developing lung cancer. 

“I love them. I think the more positive approach you have to smoking, the less harmful it is,” she mused.

An honorable mention here must go to Brooke Shields, 59, who said in 1981, “Smoking can kill you. And if you’re killed, you’ve lost a very important part of your life.”

In fairness to the actor, she was only 16 years old here… unlike the rest of the stars in this lineup!
