Away from acting, Joe Keery’s launched a rather successful music career. You might recognise his voice from his viral TikTok hit End Of Beginnings, which he released under the name Djo.
Keery has just released his second studio album, The Crux. It contains a song celebrating his friendship with co-star Charlie Heaton, who plays Jonathan.

The song in question is titled Charlie’s Garden and nods towards Keery sharing a backyard with Heaton his partner, fellow Stranger Things star Natalia Dyer. It even features a cameo from Heaton himself, in which he puts on an American accent to ask Keery to reschedule an audition.

“I guess part of trying to be as honest as I could was realizing that I could use these songs to sing about the people that I love in my life, and to memorialize these times that I’m experiencing,” Keery told Entertainment Weekly. “And so it just kind of came about.”
“Charlie and Natalia lived together, and I lived with a friend, and our backyards touched,” Keery recalls. “Charlie is always in his yard doing all these chores. Over the summer, we’d have off days, and I would be hanging out, playing guitar, and I’d look back in the yard and he’d be digging, he’d be burying wire.”

The song came into being when he was visiting their home. “He and Natalia were taking their dog Penny for a walk at the park and they left, and he has a piano in his house and I was just dinking around,” he said. “‘Hey, can I play your piano while you’re gone?’ ‘Sure.’ [I replied,] ‘Okay, lock up.’ So this song just comes out. Charlie and Natalia come back, and I say, ‘Hey, listen, I got this song!'”
He added: “It’s one of my favorites now, just because the influences are very clear,” . “It’s the Beatles, but [Paul] McCartney specifically, and ELO [Electric Light Orchestra]. It’s an homage to my great friend and my time in Atlanta. So I get a real kick out of listening to that song.”
Which other members of the Stranger Things cast do music?
Keery’s not the only musical member of the Stranger Things cast. Maya Hawke, who plays Robin, has released three albums, the most recent being Chaos Angel last year. Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike, has been in numerous rock bands and has often been spotted at various concerts too.
Meanwhile, Vecna’s actor Jamie Campbell Bower has done plenty of musical things, formerly as the frontman of rock band Counterfeit. In addition, he recently released a cover of the Sleep Token hit Euclid.
