Timothee Chalamet found growing up in New York City made him scared of being an actor.

The A Complete Unknown star admitted that living in a rent-stabilised building in Manhattan made the thought of making his living in the dramatic arts quite scary.

“This building truthfully made me scared of acting because it’s a tough lifestyle, and a lot of people aren’t doing fantastically,” he told Anderson Cooper on 60 Minutes.

After being asked if being around all these creative people “encouraged” him, Chalamet confessed the anxiety it prompted inside him.

He said, “It actually terrified me of becoming an actor.” 

What does Timothee Chalamet’s family do for a living?

Chalamet’s mother, Nicole Flender, is a dancer, and his sister Pauline is an actress. She is best known for her work in The Sex Lives of College Girls.

His father, Marc, is a journalist who works for UNICEF and the French newspaper, Le Parisien. According to the interview, Chalamet’s old man is the one responsible for reminding him to be “normal”.

What else did Timothee Chalamet say in the interview?

While chatting to Cooper, Chalamet quipped that showbiz really is “no place for a child”.

“It really isn’t. The cameras and people going, ‘Hey, do the thing where we recognize you as cute in your own head,'” he told the broadcaster.

After starring as Dylan in A Complete Unknown, Chalamet also joked about how if he ever met the music legend, he would try to “out Bob him”.

He is currently up for an Academy Award in the Best Actor category for playing the Blowin’ In The Wind singer. The James Mangold-helmed movie also stars Edward Norton, Elle Fanning and Monica Barbaro.

In a likely attempt to not completely irritate Dylan, Chalamet also suggested that if they ever met they could discuss “the weather” or what his “favourite sandwich” was.
