- Fifth instalment of Toy Story franchise will see toy going against electronics
- Writer and director Andrew Stanton confirmed news at D23 2024
- First images of film also shown – with Woody back with the gang

Woody, Buzz and the gang are coming back to theaters in 2026 for Toy Story 5 – and this time they face a new enemy: electronic devices.
Toys v electronics
Long-time writer and director Andrew Stanton confirmed the major plot of the film will be “toys going against electronics” at the D23 2024 event. This announcement came against a backdrop of Bonnie being shown undercover with a tablet device, with the Toy Story regulars, including Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Rex, Ham and Forky looking on from the end of the bed.
Other still images were shared at the D23 announcement, including a line-up of what look to be rogue Buzz Lightyears. There was also a short animated clip featuring the aliens.
But other than that, little else has been revealed about the film, other than confirmation that it will arrive in theaters on June 19, 2026.
Woody’s return
One interesting detail is that Woody is shown with the rest of the gang. This has caused speculation online as, at the end of Toy Story 4, Woody stayed with Bo Peep and became a ‘lost toy’ rather than going back with Buzz, Jessie and the others. This means many are wondering how and when Woody gets reunited with the old toys and their current owner, Bonnie, who didn’t seem to notice that Woody was gone at the conclusion of Toy Story 4. It also raises what happens to the other ‘lost toys’ such as Duke Caboom.
In terms of the voice cast, Tim Allen has confirmed he will again be voicing Buzz Lightyear, but other than that, there are few details. Tom Hanks has not yet said if he will be voicing Woody again.
