• While US festival goers experience the brighter climates of Coachella, the UK is obviously never as lucky
  • Thousands of music fans have flocked to Leeds Festival in Yorkshire this weekend – but are battling extreme wind weather conditions
  • The festival has closed two stages, and campers were advised to ‘stay in their tents’ – but, of course, it has been heavily documented on TikTok

It’s a fact of life – summer time goes hand in hand with music festivals.

And while thousands of Americans enjoy the likes of Coachella and Lollapalooza every year, they may assume that festivals in the UK offer the same type of glamor.

Enter: Leeds Festival.

Situated in the Yorkshire city over the UK’s August bank holiday weekend, you’d think that the weather would be filled with bright sunshine and blue skies.

But although it’s not raining (for now!), the infamous Northern climate has provided another hazard – extreme windy conditions.

The campsites have been absolutely battered by Storm Lilian – with two of the stages being closed due to the 60 mph gusts, and organizers advising people to “stay in their tents”.

Of course, nothing goes undocumented these days – and campers were quick to take to TikTok to tell others about their experiences.

One video from user Leavefast, captioned ‘My favourite weekend wellness retreat’, racked up 10.8k likes and over 111k views.

“Feel like I dodged a bullet by not coming this year lord,” commented one user, while another added, “Good luck girl.”

‘They should have postponed it!’

Another TikTok clip was posted by Eyeslikeaqua, and captioned, “#leedsfestival carnage in access camp.”

“I just don’t understand how camping is even remotely fun!” exclaimed one, while another added, “Omg they should have postponed it, they knew the weather was going to be terrible!!”

Someone else pointed out, “I don’t know why all the festivals are at the end of August! It’s the same every year,” as another user shrugged, “Welcome to British summer time.”

Others recalled the “PTSD” they still have from festivals in years gone by, and added, “Boomtown 2019 makes this look like paradise.”

Another concurred, “I lost my £600 air tent at Boomtown festival 2019, ripped it in half! We left Sunday morning.”

So there you have it: British festivals aren’t for the faint hearted…
