- TV series for 300 is in early development, according to reports
- 300 was hugely successful film released in 2007
- No writer or platform yet attached to the project

Warner Bros Television is developing a TV series based on the 2007 historical fantasy film 300, according to reports.
Variety broke the story, citing unnamed sources, adding that the series is in early development. Indeed, so early is the development that no writer is attached to the project, nor does it have a confirmed broadcast platform.
Early development
However, Variety added that Zach Synder, who co-wrote and directed the 300 film is in talks to direct and be an executive producer on the TV show. Deborah Snyder, who was an executive producer on the film, is also believed to be in talks to return. Other producers from the film, such as Bernie Goldmann and Mark Canton are also in talks about taking roles in the project.
Variety also claimed that the TV series would be set before the events of 300, although, as you would expect at such an early stage of development, the plot is still being worked out.
Successful film
The 2007 film, which starred Gerard Butler, Rodrigo Santoro and Michael Fassbender, among others, was a fictional version of the Battle of Thermopylae in the Greco-Persian Wars. In it, King Leonidas (Butler) led 300 Spartans into battle against the Persian ‘God-King’ Xerxes (Santoro) and his army of 300,000 soldiers, with various fantastical creatures included for good measure. The film – based on Frank Miller and Lynn Varley’s comic book series of the same name – was a big success, grossing more than $450 million globally. A sequel, Rise of an Empire, was released in 2014.
300 is just the latest big box office film to be converted into a TV series; for instance, it was recently announced that a prequel series of Legally Blonde is in the works.
