While plot details are currently few and far between, many early reports suggest The Phoenician Scheme will be a period drama set in 1940’s Europe.
Anderson wrote the project with his frequent collaborator Roman Coppola. It’s since been described as an espionage story. According to reports, it’ll follow one of the richest men in Europe and the strained relationship that he has with his daughter.

Despite this scant log-line, The Phoenician Scheme boasts a large ensemble cast but who can we expect to see populating Anderson’s trademark panning shots?

The Phoenician Scheme Cast

Like many Anderson movies, The Phoenician Scheme features a range of stars – some of whom have worked with the director before and others who are new to his oeuvre.
Leading the way is Benicio del Toro as Zsa-Zsa Korda, the rich European at the heart of Anderson’s new story. He’ll be joined by English actress Mia Threapleton as Sister Liesl, Korda’s estranged daughter.
Complicating matters will be Liesl’s tutor, played by Michael Cera.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas star del Toro previously worked with Anderson on 2021’s The French Dispatch. Meanwhile, The Phoenician Scheme will mark Cera’s Anderson debut. The same goes for Threapleton.
Together, the trio will be joined by Tom Hanks as a character named Leland, Bryan Cranston as someone named Reagan, Rupert Friend as Excaliber and Benedict Cumberbatch as Uncle Nubar.
Each has worked with Anderson before. Hanks appeared in 2023’s Asteroid City, Cranston lent his voice to 2018’s Isle of Dogs, while Friend and Cumberbatch starred in Anderson’s Roald Dahl Netflix shorts.
Who else is starring the Phoenician Scheme?

Joining this already announced cast will be The Sound of Metal’s Riz Ahmed.
Astroid City stars Jeffrey Wright and Scarlett Johansson will also star alongside Anderson regulars like Bill Murray and Willem Dafoe.
Rounding out the movie’s primary cast are Charlotte Gainsbourg, British comedian Richard Ayoade, Hope Davis, and French star Mathieu Amalric.
When is the new Wes Anderson film released?
The Phoenician Scheme will get a limited release across American screens on 30 May 2025. A week later, the film will available all across the country from 6 June.
