A Minecraft Movie has been a box office success this past month, and fans will soon be able to relive it at their leisure when it comes to streaming services.
While critics may have been generally sniffy about A Minecraft Movie, the movie-going public have been much more enthusiastic about the adaptation of the hugely popular video game.
A Minecraft Movie took $301 million at the global box office on its opening weekend, with roughly $144 million of that coming outside of North America. Since then, the movie has continued to rack up impressive numbers, and, at the time of writing, has taken more than $875 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. This total puts it second in the top 10 biggest grossing movies of 2025 so far, albeit still more than $1 billion behind the smash hit Chinese movie Ne Zha 2.
In addition, the movie, which stars Jack Black and Jason Momoa, has produced chart success too, with the 34-second ‘Steve’s Lava Chicken’ song placing in the Billboard Top 100, for reasons never fully explained.
With such success as this, it is no surprise that the movie will soon be available on streaming services, where it will no doubt continue to provide impressive numbers.
When does A Minecraft Movie come to streaming?
A Minecraft Movie will be released on digital streaming on Tuesday, May 13 via premium video on demand (PVOD), Warner Bros Discovery has confirmed. Those who purchase the movie via PVOD will also be able to access bonus material – five production featurettes.
The movie can be preordered on Prime Video for $24.99 – also the PVOD price.
A Minecraft Movie will also be available to buy or rent on other digital platforms including AppleTV and Fandango at Home.
Sequel incoming
With the success of A Minecraft Movie at the box office – which is likely to be replicated on streaming too – it was perhaps inevitable that a sequel would be made.
Indeed, just days after the movie hit theaters, executives at Warner Bros were talking about a sequel and, while there has been no official confirmation yet about a return to the blocky world, it would seem like it is going to happen.
If/when it is confirmed, the post-credits scene has already set up a plotline for the sequel featuring a beloved character.
