- Squid Game is one of Netflix’s biggest series
- It recently dropped its second season after years away
- Questions have swirled about its third season
Squid Game is one of Netflix’s most popular hits on the streaming service. When the South Korean horror drama dropped in 2021, it became an international smash hit sensation with a cast of Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-joon and others.
The world was gripped by the gory dystopian series, which saw Seong Gi-hun compete to the death against other contestants for a huge cash prize. However, as always, not everything was as it seemed. With its gripping ending, the desperation for more after the initial episodes was palpable.
According to official viewing figures, it has racked up more than three billion minutes watched.
The cliffhanger was made worse by fans having to wait nearly three years for a follow-up series. The second season dropped on 26 December.
When the nine episodes were over, fans had to wait three years for a follow-up as its sophomore season only dropped on 26 December this year.
Hwang Dong-hyuk recently gave an insight into how torturous the wait will be for the third season.

When is Squid Game season three coming out?
Well, sooner than you think! It won’t be another mammoth wait, like from 2021 to 2024.
In November, the show’s creator told Digital Spy back in November, “I actually wrote and shot seasons two and three in order at the same time.”

He added that they were “almost done” with the editing of the third instalment.
When pressed about an exact release date, Hwang continued, “We’re going to do our very best to make sure we get season three done as soon as possible so that it can be shown to the viewers,” implying that he was also desperate to get it out sooner rather than later.
Seeing that 2025 is yet to even begin, there seems a high chance the third season could be out by the end of 2025!
Previously, Hwang told the same outlet that it would be “good” for a wee pause.
“It’s going to be good for [fans] to take that short break and wait for season three,” he said. “It is definitely going to be worth the wait.”
