When is The Last of Us season 2 released? At long last, we finally have the information we need.
The Last Of Us was a huge hit when it debuted in 2023. It even beat House Of The Dragon to become HBO’s most-viewed title ever on its subscription streaming service in Europe. It already had a large audience, given it is an adaptation of the 2013 video game of the same name.

The Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann-created drama follows Joel (Pascal), a smuggler paid to transport a 14-year-old girl, Ellie, (Ramsey) across the country 20 years into a zombie apocalypse. The girl is believed to be the key to the cure for a fungal pandemic. The trouble started due to a virus turning people into flesh-devouring monsters.
Those who have played the game will have a sense of where the story is going, but Mazin and Druckmann have hinted that the next instalment will be a “continuation” of the previous story.
Druckmann said, “More specifically, it’s a continuation of love from the first season, and this is just the dark side of that coin, the pursuit of justice at any cost for the ones you love and the exploration of that.”
Has the second season got a release date yet?
Yes, The Last of Us season 2 will debut at 9pm ET/PT on Sunday 13 April 2025 on HBO. The series will consist of seven episodes, with each available to stream on MAX after their televised debut.
This matches up with previous updates from HBO that confirmed that the new season will begin airing in April 2025.
A short teaser dropped in September 2024, depicting Ellie reckoning with a big choice she made at the end of the first season. Later, a teaser dropped this month gave us the first look at new cast members.
What’s different about The Last Of Us season two?

Ramsey has teased that the second season of the show will be “darker” than the first. She added that it is a story about revenge, “and a continuation from the first season about the dangers of unconditional love,” she said.
