Who is hosting the 2025 Oscars ceremony?

Conan O’Brien will host the 2025 Oscars ceremony. The news was confirmed by the Oscars on 15 November 2024.
“America demanded it and now it’s happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. In other news, I’m hosting the Oscars,” joked O’Brien in a press release issued by the Academy.
Who is Conan O’Brien?
O’Brien is known as one of America’s leading Late Night hosts and voices in alternative American comedy. Between 1993 and 2009 he hosted Late Night with Conan O’Brien on NBC, taking over the role from former host David Letterman as a completely unknown quantity.
His wild and often fantasy-led comedic style helped to make O’Brien one of the country’s leading Late Night hosts and it wasn’t long before he was identified as a key player to inherit The Tonight Show from its then-host Jay Leno.
This ultimately happened in 2009. However, thanks to internal issues that spilt out into the public domain, Leno ended up returning to the show in early 2010.
In the years since, O’Brien went on to host his own show Conan on CBS between 2010 and 2021. After this show wrapped, O’Brien focused primarily on his podcast Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend before returning to TV for a new travel show entitled Conan O’Brien Must Go.
Before his exploits in front of the camera, O’Brien made a name for himself as a writer on shows like Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons. For the latter, he is famous for penning the show’s iconic Monorail episode.
Has Conan O’Brien hosted awards shows before?
Yes, in addition to his own talk shows, O’Brien has fronted a number of awards ceremonies.
In 2002, he hosted the 58th Emmy Awards and returned to deliver the same job in 2006. Both appearances were met with critical and audience praise.
In 2014, O’Brien hosted the MTV Movie Awards and he has also acted as Master of Ceremonies for the White House Correspondents Dinner in both 1995 and 2013.
Who hosted the 2024 Oscars ceremony?

The 2024 Oscars were hosted by fellow Late Night host Jimmy Kimmel. It was his third time hosting having fronted the show in 2018 and 2017.
In 2022, the Oscars were hosted by Regina Hall, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes and between 2021 and 2019, the show had no official host at all.
Kimmel’s three hosting stints are rivalled by people like Whoopi Goldberg who has hosted four times and Billy Crystal who has hosted a whopping nine times.
Bob Hope currently holds the record for most Oscars hosted, delivering 14 solo stints and five with other hosts.
2024 will mark O’Brien’s first time hosting the Oscars.

Following the Academy’s announcement in mid-November, fans began chiming in with their thoughts on the decision – and almost all were positive.
“One of the best decisions y’all have made in YEARS” said one user, posting alongside the GOAT emoji.
“Love it!!! Finally someone who is actually funny,” said another. Meanwhile, a third asked if Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman weren’t available. The pair had been rumoured to host following their time sharing a screen in Deadpool & Wolverine.
“About time,” offered another user. “He should’ve hosted it 15 years ago. He did a great job at the Emmys. Please bring out Triumph to roast the crowd!”
This is a reference to the infamous insult comic dog puppet performed by Late Night writer Robert Smeigel on various Conan productions.
