Netflix’s new limited series Apple Cider Vinegar is already generating a substantial amount of buzz.

The six-part series is based on the real life story of the fraudulent Australian health influencer Belle Gibson. It is also an adaptation of the 2017 book about the scandal, The Woman Who Fooled the World.

Gibson claimed to have terminal brain cancer and said she was managing it through healthy eating, natural remedies and alternative medicine. This was the foundation of her lifestyle blog turned wellness empire, The Whole Pantry.

However, it later became apparent that Gibson never had cancer.

Kaitlyn Dever stars as Gibson, with another influencer, Milla Blake, portrayed by Alycia Debnam-Carey. You may well have seen these names around before – and here’s where you might recognise them from.

Kaitlyn Dever – Belle Gibson

Kaitlyn Dever leads the cast as Belle Gibson. One of her breakthrough roles was Amy in Booksmart, in which she starred opposite Beanie Feldstein.

She is also well known for appearing in the 2021 limited series Dopesick about America’s opioid crisis. Dever played Loretta McCready in Justified and Eve Baxter in Last Man Standing and has also starred in Dear Evan Hansen, Ticket to Paradise and No One Will Save You.

Alicia Debnam-Carey – Milla Blake

Debnam-Carey plays another wellness influencer, Milla Blake, who becomes a frenemy to Belle. The one difference between them is that Milla’s cancer is real and she is attempting to fight it with natural remedies.

Blake was not a real person but her character was believed to be loosely based on the influencer Jessica Ainscough. She became a wellness entrepreneur after receiving a cancer diagnosis aged 22, which she attempted to treat using Gerson therapy. However, it’s not scientifically proven and Ainscough died seven years after her diagnosis.

Debnam-Carey is best known for her role as Alicia Clark in Fear the Walking Dead. She’s also had a lead role in the series The 100 and the series Saint X and The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart.

Aisha Dee – Chanelle

Dee plays Milla’s friend Chanelle, who has just returned from a few years travelling to help her run her wellness empire. She crucially ends up finding the evidence that brings about Belle’s downfall.

The actress is most easily recognised as Kat from The Bold Type. She’s also known for her roles in Sissy, Safe Home and Chasing Life.

Tilda Cobham-Hervey – Lucy

Cobham-Hervey plays a cancer patient Lucy who follows both Belle and Milla. Although she is receiving chemotherapy, both influencers make her wonder if there’s another way she can treat her cancer, though her husband Justin’s not so sure.

She appeared alongside Debnam-Carey in The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart. The actress has also starred in Hotel Mumbai and I Am Woman.

Ashley Zukerman – Clive

Clive is Belle’s partner and their relationship is not the healthiest. Zukerman’s best known role is Nate from Succession and has previously appeared in City on Fire, Rush, Manhattan, The Lost Symbol, and the Fear Street movies.

Mark Coles Smith – Justin

Smith stars as Lucy’s husband Justin, who becomes concerned about her treating her cancer with alternative therapies.

He is best known for his roles in the series Mystery Road: Origin and the movies Last Cab to Darwin, Picnic at Hanging Rock and Occupation: Rainfall.
