We know that Elle Woods’ mum is a major influence on her in the forthcoming prequel series Elle, and now we know who is taking on the role, and she is a familiar face.

Deadline revealed that June Diane Raphael will be playing Eva in the new show, opposite Lexi Minetree as the titular character.

In the prequel series, the relationship between Elle and her mother, Eva, will be explored in depth. At this point, Eva is Elle’s role model – and this will no doubt inform the latter’s character as she appeared at the beginning of Legally Blonde.

Becoming Elle

In the movie, Eva – played by Tane McClure – was only featured briefly, chiefly to try and dissuade her daughter from going to Harvard to pursue a legal degree. However, in the prequel, she will be much more central. Thus far, the team behind Elle haven’t revealed too much about Eva, other than that she is polished and likes to keep herself and her home picture-perfect.

Production on Elle is set to begin this month, so we are likely to get more cast announcements soon. The show will be set during Elle’s high school years and will explore the formative experiences that mould her into the character we see in the Legally Blonde film. Here is everything we know about Elle.

June Diane Raphael – a familiar face

Raphael is a familiar face on US TV. Currently, she has a recurring role on The Morning Show – where she appears alongside Reece Witherspoon, who played Elle in the original movie and is an executive producer on the TV show.

She is also known for playing Brianna Hanson in the Netflix comedy Grace and Frankie, which ran from 2015 to 2022. Brianna was the oldest child of Grace, played by Jane Fonda, and ran a successful cosmetics company.

Raphael also played Sadie in several seasons of the sitcom New Girl, which starred Zooey Dechanel. She has also appeared in two episodes of Abbott Elementary as Elizabeth Washington.

Over the years, she has also voiced characters in animated shows such as American Dad! And Bojack Horeseman

In movies, Raphael co-wrote the comedy Bride Wars with best friend Casey Wilson. Kate Hudson and Anna Hathaway starred in the 2009 film, with Raphael appearing in a supporting role.
