- Robinson stars alongside Paul Rudd in upcoming comedy
- Film is being hailed as ‘one of the funniest of the last 10 years’
- Robinson is an SNL alumni and star of I Think You Should Leave on Netflix

Out of the two co-leads in A24’s upcoming dark comedy Friendship, it is not doing a disservice to Tim Robinson to note that Paul Rudd is the bigger household name out of the pair. Rudd, being one of the 21st centuries biggest Hollywood stars, boasts a resumé that includes some of the most most successful knee slappers of all time, a hefty dose of MCU and an unnerving inability to get any older (AND a reprise of ANACONDA!?)
But this doesn’t mean Robinson is some lightweight who is lucky enough to come along for the ride. If anything, the Saturday Night Live alumni is the dark, uneasy beating heart that is set to make Friendship one of the most unlikely hits of the year.
Where Do You Know Tim Robinson From?
Tim Robinson has probably shown up in more than a few memes and gifs splattered across your social media timelines over the last six years. Ever since I Think You Should Leave premiered on Netflix, the absurd sketch show has become a sensation, especially among audiences online.
Robinson’s flair for the surreal and unexpected has made ITYSL jaw-achingly essential viewing. Across three seasons the Detroit native has crafted some of the most insanity-laden characters and situations ever seen on screen. Not to mention, he’s attracted some all-timer cameos along the way.
From The Driving Crooner to the Dan Flashes shirt enthusiast to Karl Havoc to Adult Ghost Tour Guy, it’s little wonder the show has managed to attract the likes of Jason Schwartzman, Andy Samberg, Bob Odenkirk and Fred Armisen to collaborate on some truly chaotic pieces.
Saturday Night Live and Detroiters
Between 2012-2016, Robinson worked on Saturday Night Live, at first as a performer, then as a writer. One of his most notable performances on the NBC mainstay was making Kevin Hart break during a sketch titled Barnes and Noble Firing.
A year after departing SNL, Robinson and fellow Detroit native/best friend Sam Richardson brought Detroiters to our screens, hinting at the absurdist hilarity that was to ensue a year later when I Think You Should Leave landed on Netflix.
The sitcom ran for two seasons and focused on the relationship between best friends and next-door neighbors Tim Cramblin (Robinson) and Sam Duvet (Richardson). The duo work together as creatives at Tim’s family’s advertising agency in Detroit where they produce low-budget TV commercials for local businesses.
Robinson’s work on I Think You Should Leave has earned him two Emmys for Outstanding Actor in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series. He is also a lifelong fan of professional wrestling, which has seen the likes of former WWE Champion and Hall of Famer Kevin Nash cameo in his shows.
Friendship will hit cinemas on May 9 and has already proven to be a huge hit with critics, scoring 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. It has been hailed as one of the funniest films of the past 10 years by one critic, while others have announced it as the best comedy of 2025.
