President-elect Donald Trump is continuing his nominations for top governmental jobs and his pick to head up transport is Sean Duffy – but who is he?
Another presenter
Duffy is currently co-host of The Bottom Line alongside Dagen McDowell on Fox Business. The show began in January 2023. If his appointment is approved, he could become the second Fox News host to get a top job in the Trump administration. Last week, Trump nominated Pete Hegseth as his pick for defence secretary.
Trump loyalist
Like Hegseth, Duffy is a long-time Trump loyalist. He is known for defending the president-elect during his time on Fox.
Back in 2017, Duffy supported Trump’s executive order to impose a temporary ban on people from Muslim-majority countries entering the US.
Reality star
Duffy first became known to the US public in 1997 when he starred in the sixth season of MTV reality show The Real World: Boston. In this show, strangers live together for several months in a city and cameras follow their lives and relationships A year, he later appeared in Road Rules: All Stars, another MTV reality show, which starred former members of The Real World. It was on the latter show that Duffy met his future wife, Rachel Campos.
In addition, Duffy has commentated for ESPN over the years, including on Great Outdoor Games.
Political career
Duffy is an experienced politician, however. His political career began in 2002 when he was appointed Ashland County District Attorney. He was reelected unopposed in 2004, 2006 and 2008.
In 2009, he announced his intention to campaign for Congress. In 2011, he was elected to the US House of Representatives as a Republican (of course) representative for Wisconsin. He was in the House for eight years, leaving in 2019 so he could spend more time with his then-newborn daughter, who has Down syndrome.
