Another awkward day in Musicland, and this time it’s because of Gracie Abrams‘ fans. The singer is currently on her The Secrets Of Us tour. In the last year Abrams’ music has a surge in popularity, just like Sabrina Carpenter did following the release of Short N’ Sweet. Last year, Abrams was an opening act for Taylor Swift on her hugely successful Eras Tour. But this time, fans don’t like the tour opener the That’s So True Singer picked for her European leg. They petitioned to get her removed!
Abrams announced her opener on January 24. Something similar kind of happened on the Eras Tour funnily enough, but not with Abrams. Swifties online saw a clip of singer Maisie Peters performing Lost The Breakup, and criticized her for her spoken word interlude. Peters was the opening act before Swift’s support act, Paramore came on-stage in London last year. Who are Swifties if not the harshest fan group? You don’t want to mess with them.
Peters responded with an iconic reaction. She posted a photo on her story with a screen shot of Swift’s song Mean from her Speak Now album. Mean was allegedly written about those who had tried to bring Swift down. Primarily music critic Bob Lefsetz who harshly criticized one of her performances in 2010.

However, Abrams’ fans petitioned to remove her tour opener, Us singer Dora Jar for an entirely different reason. But why? Read on to find out.
Who is Dora Jar?
Dora Jar is a US singer born on 12 October, 1996. She’s a pop singer who has released one studio album, three singles and some EPs. Jar has experience opening for musicians, she opened for The Neighbourhood in 2021 and Billie Ellish’s 2022 Happier Than Ever Tour.
She also was the supporting act on the North American leg of the 1975’s 2023/2024 tour. Now, she will open for Abrams, much to the annoyance of her fans.
Why were Abrams’ fans annoyed?
Before the controversy, Jar was excited by the announcement she’d be supporting Abrams on tour. She expressed her gratitude on X. She wrote: “This has been the light at the end of a tunnel in my life. So grateful and I CANT WAIT!!!! I love Gracie , I love music, and I love you.”

The reason for the petition is ridiculous. Basically many of Abrams’ fans feel that Jar is too unknown to be Abrams’ support act on tour.
The same day, the alarming Change.org petition was started to replace Jar as the tour’s opener. The petition was called “Replace Dora Jar as the Opening Act for The Secret of Us Europe Tour”. Wow, harsh much?
What did the petition by Abrams’ fans say?
The petion’s description began: “Many fans, including myself, are baffled by the recent announcement that Dora Jar will be the opening act for The Secret of Us Tour’s Europe shows.”
“We are perplexed as we do not recognize her, and with less than two weeks till the tour, it’s virtually impossible to familiarize ourselves with her slow-paced songs.”
The petition also claimed that Jar’s slow-style of music was too slow and an opener should “set the mood” for the crowd.
Bizarrely, they even referenced Billboard’s point about an upbeat opening act “[setting] the tone” for the main act and the audience. The petition concluded by saying this by default meant another act should replace Jar on The Secret Of Us Tour and asking Abrams’ fans to show their support.
Uh…ouch.
Did Dora Jar respond?
Yes, she did. Jar took the criticism like a champ and responded to Abrams’ fans on X.

She is a sweetie, for sure.
Did Gracie Abrams respond?
Abrams’ fans made her mad, and she was not happy about the petition. Abrams responded on Stereogum’s Instagram account. She called the petition “so wildly uncool and bizarre”.
Abrams went onto to defend Jar. “I’ve only seen everyone’s total excitement [for the announcement of Jar’s opening act], and I couldn’t be luckier or prouder to share a stage with this talented wonder. Stream everything she’s ever made whether or not you’re coming to the show. Dora forever and ever,” she finished.
On her Instagram Stories, she reposted her original comment and expressed her excitement to Jar joining her tour. “Reiterating this and then dropping it. I am so excited to share a stage with this gem of an artist. Love you, Dora,” Abrams wrote.
