Paul Mescal is one of the most in-demand actors of the moment.
But while his career may be going from strength to strength, it seems the Irish star, 28, is having less luck in his dating life.
This week, Mescal was spotted enjoying a meal with his girlfriend, singer Gracie Abrams.
But far from a romantic day out at the London restaurant Jolene, the evening with Abrams, 25, reportedly ended in literal tears.
“They were sitting at a table opposite each other and Paul had his head in his hands as Gracie just sat there crying,” an onlooker revealed. “She was crying so much that he then started to cry too.
“She eventually got up and walked out of the restaurant while they were halfway through their meal and he was left to pay the bill before leaving shortly afterwards.”
They added, “Everyone saw it all go down, it looked like a break-up, we were just shocked at how public it all was.”
Mescal and Abrams are yet to confirm if they have broken up.
When did Paul Mescal and Gracie Abrams start dating?
Prior to the hiccup in their relationship, Mescal and Abrams’ romance appeared to be smooth sailing.
The pair were first linked as far back as October 2023. A source told showbiz gossip Instagram page Deuxmoi that, “I’ve heard from two different people now that Paul Mescal and Gracie Abrams are hanging out/dating, but I haven’t seen it first hand.”
Fast forward to June 2024, and it seemed as though Mescal and Abrams – who recently supported Taylor Swift on her Eras Tour – were now A Thing.
Pictured out and about in London, another insider spotted them shopping in July last year.
“Paul is a very low-key person, as is Gracie, so there was no fanfare and they kept their distance from each other when they were out on the street,” they told The Sun. “When they had finished shopping, they each went off alone.”
Since then, the pair have been seen together several times – including with other pals at music festivals.
And while neither has officially confirmed their relationship, they seemed to go public with their romance in November – when Abrams attended the Los Angeles premiere of Gladiator II to support her boyfriend.
Mescal also supported Abrams – who is the daughter of Hollywood director J. J. Abrams – at her debut SNL performance in December.

Mescal was first linked to musician Phoebe Bridgers in May 2020 – after Bridgers tweeted (and deleted!), “Finished Normal People and now I’m sad and horny oh wait.”
While the very bold comment may have put some off, Mescal was flattered. “I’m officially dead,” he posted to his account.
The pair then had a live chat for Wonderland magazine, which many hail as their ‘first date’.
Eventually getting together, Mescal and Bridgers were rumored to be engaged and also attended the 2022 Met Gala together around that time.
But by December of that year, they had split – and Bridgers was spotted with comedian Bo Burnham.
Before Abrams, Mescal was also linked to actor Sophie Wilde.
After a brief stint on the regular dating apps, Mescal was said to have briefly dated fellow actor Sophie Wilde in March last year.
The Aftersun Oscar nominee reportedly grew close after spending a lot of time together.
“Paul and Sophie have been having lots of fun together and now their friendship has turned into something more,” a source told The Mirror. “They got really close after last month’s B Awards and were seen smooching into the early hours at an after-party at London’s Chiltern Firehouse.
“It’s early days, but they’re excited about where things could go. They have a solid foundation and loads of respect for each other.”
