Will Dorthy be in Wicked: Part 2 AKA Wicked: For Good? It’s something fans of the franchise are eager to find out.
Part one of director Jon M. Chu’s two-part adaptation of the hugely popular theatre hit Wicked landed just before 2024 came to a close and people loved it. In addition to featuring one of the most meme-able marketing campaigns of recent years (we’re still “holding space” for it tbh), Chu’s move proved to be a hit with both audiences and critics alike.

As of early 2025, Wicked: Part 1 holds a very comfortable 88% critics score and a 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Plus, awards bodies love it too. Wicked: Part 1 has earned 10 Oscar nominations, including a Best Actress nod for Elphaba star Cynthia Erivo and a Best Supporting Actress nomination for Ariana Grande’s Glinda.
All of this has fans eager to see what Chu has cooked up for Wicked: For Good which will hit cinemas at the end of 2025. Speaking of audiences, they’re also keen to discover whether the original The Wizard of Oz heroine Dorothy Gale will make an appearance before the final credits start to roll.

So will Dorothy appear in Wicked: Part 2? Here’s what we know so far…
Will Dorothy be in Wicked: Part 2?
So far, it has not been confirmed or denied that Dorothy will appear in Wicked: Part 2 AKA Wicked: For Good. No casting has been announced related to the potential role.
For those unaware, original The Wizard of Oz characters Dorothy, the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion are each briefly glimpsed during the opening moments of Wicked: Part 1. Seen only from behind, the story then flashes back to a previous time frame to tell Elphaba’s story.
Each of Dorothy’s companions is teased in Wicked: Part 1, with Boq Woodsman (Ethan Slater) becoming the Tin Man, Fiyero Tigelaar (Jonathan Bailey) set to become the Scarecrow and a young lion cub liberated by Elphaba set to become the Cowardly lion.
Both Wicked movies were filmed back-to-back so if Dorothy does feature in Wicked: For Good, the role already has an actor attached to it. This has led some fans to speculate whether it’s Matilda: The Musical star Alisha Weir after she was seen walking the Wicked: Part 1 red carpet despite not appearing in that particular movie.
As it stands, these rumours are just that. Nothing has been confirmed about the casting of Dorothy in Wicked: For Good.
That said, it has been heavily hinted that her presence will be felt in the sequel.
What has Jon M. Chu said about Dorothy in Wicked: Part 2?
Wicked: For Good will be set after Dorothy arrives in Oz but before she interacts with Elphaba. However, unlike The Wizard of Oz, this narrative will be told from Elphaba’s point of view.
Speaking to Variety, Chu played coy when discussing Dorothy’s involvement. “In the show, Dorothy is around. They have to intersect, and you can only tease it so much,” he explained, referencing the events of the popular Wicked stage show.
“I won’t say whether she’s a character, necessarily, in movie two. There’s a part of me that wants everyone’s Dorothy to be the whatever Dorothy they want. And yet, there is interaction and some crossover. So I’ll leave that up to Part Two.”
Does Dorothy appear in the Wicked stage show musical?
No, Dorothy does not appear in the original Wicked stage show. Despite this, her presence is very clearly felt throughout the show’s story.
We know that Wicked: For Good will make some deviations from the plot of the original stage show. These include the addition of two new songs, one of which is for Grande’s Glinda.
With this in mind, it’s entirely possible that Chu will deviate further to include Dorothy in his final Wicked movie.
