The makers of Wonka, the upcoming film that chronicles the early life of Willy Wonka, of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory fame, will be hoping that the Christmas market will help to boost sales.
The film, which stars Timothee Chalamet as the eponymous confectioner, has been projected to take in $20-$23 million at the box office on its opening weekend by The Quorum.
While it is the third highest projected takings of films being tracked by The Quorum, so it is looking strong, especially with a new trailer having dropped recently, it cost a reported £125 million to make, so the team behind it will be hoping its Christmas scheduling will help to boost sales.
The story centres of Wonka’s early years – how he went from a chocolate maker to eccentric confectionery factory owner. It also explains how he met the Oompah-loompahs
Wonka is one of the big blockbuster films planned for the holiday season, and, with its PG rating, will appeal to families looking for a film that all ages can watch – other films out at this time include Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, but that is rated PG-13.
Wonka opens in the US on December 15 – check out the latest trailer here.
Will you be heading to see it over the holiday period?
