- The WWE Hall of Famer and current AEW star lives in North Caroline, where Helene caused catastrophic damage
- Copeland and his wife Beth Phoenix had to navigate the flooded streets to get their daughter treated for an infection after the hurricane had hit
- Copeland’s fellow AEW star Cash Wheeler has also been helping raise money for those affected by the Category 4 storm
Adam ‘Edge’ Copeland has forged a reputation over the last 25 years for performing some incredibly heroic feats (and some horrendously villanous ones as well, but now’s not the time) inside a wrestling ring, but the Hall of Famer is proving to be a hero outside of the squared circle, too.
The multiple time World Champion, a Canada native, now resides in Asheville, North Carolina, an area recently devastated by Hurricane Helene. And it has been revealed that the 50-year-old has been helping FEMA in the wake of the Category 4 storm’s path of destruction, which has left 172 people dead and over 200 more missing at the time of writing in the Carolinas.
AEW Owner Tony Khan revealed on a conference call earlier this week, ahead of the company’s WrestleDream Pay-Per-View, that Copeland had been digging bodies out of the hurricane wreckage.
“I talked to [Adam Copeland]…and I was dealing with a bit of a scramble with those [booking] issues and Adam called me, backstage at ‘Collision’ and he was with the FEMA workers and he was with them and he was helping them and they were digging [dead] bodies out,” Khan said. “Here I am, six cups of coffee and pulling my hair out because people’s flights got canceled.”
Copeland also confirmed, during an appearance on Busted Open radio, that Khan had helped significantly with assisting emergency service workers locate storm victims in the western Carolina mountains.
“And I’m sure he wouldn’t ever want me to tell this but, they needed some stealth Starlinks instead of I guess the big ones that Elon Musk sent aren’t necessarily good for getting out in the mountains. With these things and drones over top to be able to start locating people. So I reached out to Tony Khan, and guess who sent out a bunch of stealth Starlinks to the Asheville Police Department? I’ll say it because, you know…
“He’s been awesome throughout this whole thing. Just throwing help wherever he can and I mean, so many people have been but, when you get an area that can’t get their hands on Starlinks and these particular ones, it’s like, okay, we gotta reach outside here and you know, I just thought of him, and sure enough, he came through.”
In addition to this, multiple time tag team champion Cash Wheeler, of FTR, who is also a North Carolina resident, has set up a GoFundMe to help deliver relief to people affected by Helene, which has already raised north of $70,000 from a $25,000 target. Donations are still being accepted so, if you can, please click the above link to pledge whatever you can.
