- Young Thug’s attorney, Brian Steel, jailed for 20 days
- Young Thug is one of six defendants in what has become known as the YSL trial
- Trial has already seen twists – proceedings were halted last year after a co-defendant was stabbed

In the latest twist in the trail involving Young Thug, the rapper’s attorney, Brian Steel has been jailed for 20 days.
The judge, Ural Granville, passed the sentence after Steel was held in contempt of court for refusing to disclose how he had heard about a conversation – supposedly private – between a key witness, prosecutors and the judge. Steel’s refusal was down to client-attorney privilege, he said, which cut no mustard with the judge.
Weekend incarceration
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Steel will serve his sentence on weekends only, starting on Friday, at Fulton County Jail.
To make this situation even more bizarre, Steel has requested that he spend his sentence in Cobb County Jail, where Young Thug – real name Jeffrey Williams – is currently incarcerated, so that they can work on the case together. Judge Glanville is considering the request.
Multiple stoppages
Elsewhere, Young Thug’s second attorney, Keith Adams, moved for a mistrial.
This is the latest twist in what has become known as the YSL trial. Back in December 2023, proceedings were halted after one of Young Thug’s co-defendants, Shannon Stillwell, was reportedly stabbed in prison by another inmate after a fight had broken out.
This was one of several stoppages that have occurred in the trial. including taking nigh on a year to select a jury. Stillwell and Young Thug are two of six defendants on trial.
The case hinges on the definition of YSL. According to the prosecution, it stands for Young Slime Life, a ‘criminal street gang’ the defendants are said to be part of. The defence counter that is merely means Young Stoner Life and YSL is just a record label.
