The red carpet at the 2025 Oscars was overtaken by black, and goth, it seems. Celebrities stepped out for the most glamorous night in film to pose on the carpet. There were some standout fashion moments, Ariana Grande in Schiaparelli was a vision, but not everything was bright or in Timothée Chalamet’s case, pastel. Leading the night with five awards was Anora who won Best Picture and Best Actress with leading lady Mikey Madison.

The award show was held on 2 March at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Naturally following such a big night, the best-dressed lists were topped with celebrity styles, with Demi Moore and Selena Gomez frequently topping the list. Crystalized party gowns are in, but so is Goth, because some celebrities on the carpet channeled showed up on the carpet in black attire.
Since there was a surplus of goth on the red carpet, here are the best goth looks from the 2025 Oscars.
Who dressed up in ‘goth’ looks at the 2025 Oscars?
Surprisingly many celebrities opted for black attire for the 2025 Oscars and the afterparties rather than bright and sparkly options.
1. Miley Cyrus in custom Alexander McQueen
Miley Cyrus made quite the statement with her Julia-Fox-styled bleached eyebrows, but her dress did most of the talking. She wore a custom black Alexander McQueen dress which she paired with black sheer gloves, adding to the goth look. Her hair was parted to the side and done in waves. The whole look was giving gothic glam!
Although the dress isn’t strictly ‘goth’, it is the gorgeous addition of the gloves and silver jewelry that match the high-end goth aesthetic.
2. Cynthia Erivo in Louis Vuitton
Wicked star Cynthia Erivo left jaws dropping on the 2025 Oscars red carpet with her look. Though not goth per se since her look wasn’t black, the green velvet floor-length dress by Louis Vuitton did give goth! The stunning sculpted gown was big and gave goth thanks to the flared collar and the long acrylic nails.
The dark green contrasting with the size of the dress is a moment.
3. Lily-Rose Depp in Chanel
Nosferatu star Lily-Ross Depp played into the gothic aesthetic of her hit horror movie in a stunning Chanel number. The actress wore a lacey Chanel dress with a peplum top. The dress reportedly took more than 500 hours to make and looked breathtaking. Depp is a longtime ambassador of Chanel, so her opting for a custom dress for the 2025 Oscars is nothing short of perfect.
Her hair also looks flawless alongside the dress, which is always a bonus for red-carpet looks.
4. Alba Rohrwacher in Valentino
Although she is not heavily featured in the best-dressed lists for the 2025 Oscars, she should be! Alba Rohrwacher wore a floor-length ruffled gown, giving Victorian vibes by Valentino. Many people questioned it, but relating to old historic goth style, this dress is everything. The actress paired the dress with simple silver jewellery which didn’t take the eyes off of the outfit.

5. Omar Apollo in Valentino
A third Valentino looks to complete the list and this one pulls out all the goth stops!
Actor and singer Omar Apollo left the carpet speechless with his Valentino look and that veil. He wore a black polka dot shirt with a striped fringe scarf tie. Apollo accessorized his look with a cute lizard brooch and a phoenix ring. But the star of the show was the birdcage veil he wore across his face, which added to the mysterious goth factor.
