- FIFA’s partnership with EA Sports ended after 2023 game
- FIFA president has previously confirmed a new FIFA video game is in the works
- EA Sports’ FC24 has been a big seller

FIFA could be making its return to the video game market with a new football game after teaming up with a new developer, according to reports.
New team
MohPlay Inc (@mohplay_inc_) has claimed that football’s governing body is teaming up with sports game developer 2K – part of Take-Two Interactive – to develop a new game.
2K is famous in the sports games market for a number of titles, including NBA 2K24 and WWE 2K24.
FIFA has been out of the football video game market since its high-profile split with EA Sports in 2022. However, FIFA has previously said it planned to make its own games, saying: “The FIFA name is the only, global, original title.”
Since the rumor broke, FIFA and 2K have been tight lipped, both saying that they won’t comment on speculation.
Track record
FIFA previously had a very long and successful partnership with EA Sports making the hugely successful FIFA series, which started back in 1993 with FIFA International Soccer, and then quickly became an eagerly anticipated yearly purchase for many gamers, as every year a new version, featuring new licenced players and teams from around the world, would be released.
However, this partnership ended with FIFA 23 after FIFA and EA Sports disagreed over how much it cost EA to use the FIFA name.
Since then, EA Sports has gone on to released FC24, which looked very much like previous games but without the FIFA branding and various other official items. The game has nonetheless been successful, having sold more than 2 million copies in the UK alone.
If FIFA were to return with a new game, it could be in time for the 2026 World Cup. FIFA owns the rights to the competition, which means only those who licence it can use it in a game.
