The Grand Theft Auto 6 hype train is unstoppable, but once again it took an unexpected detour recently when a fake gameplay clip surfaced online, sparking confusion and excitement among the already frustrated GTA fans community.

When Hype Meets Hoax

A quite realistic footage, shared on December 14, showcased what appeared to be an in-game CCTV feature, suggesting how it might tie into GTA 6’s iconic Wanted level system.

Besides this, the surroundings and details match a real-life location, which Rockstar often uses in their games. At first glance, this clip captivated the attention of die-hard fans and successfully convinced them it was an actual leak from the GTA 6.

However, the truth revealed itself in no time. The video creator on Discord, named “Long Long Time”, confessed that the footage is fake and they created it using Unreal Engine 5 to make it appear as released straight out of the original game’s world.

But why would someone spend a long time, one month, and effort creating a fake leak? There is no definite answer to it. This isn’t the first time relevant leaks have been a topic of controversy.

Fan Hype Grows While Rockstar Stays Quiet

In 2024 and in previous years fans have encountered multiple of these, fueling the thrill and dismay afterward. Recently, the update in the YouTube playlist ignited hope but it turned out to be about the GTA online trailer.

Also back in 2022, a massive security breach hit Rockstar, revealing Vice City as the game’s setting and the inclusion of two protagonists. Since then nothing officially came out of the studio except for the very first trailer in 2023 and till now Rockstar has been silent about the project.

As fans haven’t heard anything official for long time this is one of the major factors of their excitement behind even fake leaks. At the arrival of December they expected the launch of trailer 2 same as the last year but met with disappointment.

Furthermore, they looked forward to the Game Awards Show 2024, known for lifting curtains from new trailers, still developers continued their silence despite winning the “Most Anticipated Game” award.

Considering all the exasperation, Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has reassured fans that, “I think it’ll be extraordinary,” he said. “And worth waiting for.” (Transcription Via Dexerto) For now, all eyes are on 2025 it may bring the news, we all have yearned to hear for years. While the recent clip was just a faux, it’s a testament to the passion and excitement GTA 6 inspires.
