- Squid Game season 2 is set for a hard-hitting return on 26 Dec
- Its director says new episodes are “very bloody”
- However, he adds that they have plenty of comical moments too

Squid Game season 2 is closer than ever. Director Hwang Dong-Hyuk’s hotly tipped new series is set to hit Netflix later this week.
Despite landing at the most festive time of the year, the filmmaker warns fans to strap in as they prepare to return to his world of gambling and deadly playground games. According to a recent chat with The Guardian, Dong-Hyuk teased that his new episodes feature more blood than Squid Game season 1.
However, he was quick to point out that they have more humor too.

“I saw so much fake blood in season one, I’ve kind of become immune to it,” admitted Lee Jung-jae, the actor behind series star Seong Gi-hun when asked which series was bloodier. “Hard to say. Both seasons are very bloody!”
His director quickly chimed in, confirming that: “There is more blood this time. That I can promise. But there are comical moments too.”
The same article hinted at a particular shocking sequence featured early on in the series between Gi-hun and The Salesman (Gong Yoo) who lures unfortunate players into the Squid Game.
“I’m curious and excited to see the reaction,” said Hwang cryptically.

So far, early thoughts have said that the show is “a lot crazier” than its first outing. With one critic posting under the handle @RamasScreen saying “It even had its own “The Deer Hunter” moment that got me all on pins & needles, squeamish.”
The same reaction added that “Lee Jung-jam once again delivered a ferocious performance.”
A journalist posting under @JournoAayu said “Squid Game season 2 is a masterstroke,” adding that it escalated the stakes while “delving deeper into the human psyche.”
The write-up ended by saying simply “It’s bigger and better.”
Will there be a Squid Game season 3?

Yes, Squid Game season 3 was shot back-to-back with its second series. It’s probably why its director recently admitted that he was a little sick of all things Squid Game.

“I’m so exhausted. I’m so tired. In a way, I have to say, I’m so sick of Squid Game. I’m so sick of my life making something, promoting something,” Dong-hyuk told Variety.
“So I’m not thinking about my next project right now. I’m just thinking about going to some remote island and having my own free time without any phone calls from Netflix.”
While we don’t know exactly when Squid Game season 3 will arrive, we do know it will appear on Netflix at some point in 2025. We also know that it will round out Gi-hun’s story and be the last part of the Squid Game franchise – for now at least.
