Gypsy Rose Blanchard just welcomed her first child, a daughter, with her boyfriend Ken Urker over the festive period.

Blanchard gave birth to Aurora Raina on 28 December in Louisiana, a year to the day after she was released from prison.

“Aurora is healthy, and we are so happy,” Urker told the gossip site TMZ.

But who exactly is the new mother, and what is the reality television star and new mother known for?

Why did Gypsy Rose Blanchard go to prison?

Blanchard was sentenced to 10 years after she pled guilty to the second-degree murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, in 2015.

During the trial, it was revealed that she plotted with her then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn after suffering years of childhood abuse. He had stabbed her mother with a knife supplied by Blanchard.

Blanchard served seven years in Missouri’s Chillicothe Correctional Center.

Due to the gripping and salacious details, the case attracted much media attention, such as the documentary Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard.

In 2019, Hulu released The Act, a limited series based on Blanchard’s case starring Joey King and Patricia Arquette. That same year, Lifetime brought out their made-for-TV movie Love You To Death. It starred Marcia Gay Harden and Emily Skeggs.

What has Gypsy Rose Blanchard said about her mother?

Blanchard, who was diagnosed with Munchausen by proxy, has been incredibly public about the case, detailing the abuse she suffered at the hands of the mother. She even wrote a book about her life while behind bars.

She recently told PEOPLE magazine, “Nobody will ever hear me say I’m glad she’s dead or I’m proud of what I did. I regret it every single day.”

Blanchard accused her mother, Dee-Dee, of telling her and people around her she was disabled and needed medical attention that she didn’t. These included lying about her daughter having epilepsy, sight issues and muscular dystrophy.

Blanchard claimed she was forced into using a wheelchair, a feeding tube and an oxygen tank. Later, she detailed how Dee-Dee wanted her to be weak and removed from the outside world.

However, despite this, Blanchard went on to make an online dating profile, leading her to Godejohn.

During one of the trials, she said, “I wanted to be free of her hold on me. I talked him into it.”

What else has she done since leaving prison?

Blanchard has been keeping busy and capitalising on her fame since being let out on parole.

These projects have included her e-book Released: Conversations on The Eve of Freedom. This prompted a string of TV and media appearances, including Good Morning America, CNN and The View.

She also starred in her own reality series, Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up.

The show premiered on Lifetime back in June. The show featured her then-husband, Ryan Scott Anderson, who she met while in prison. They filed for divorce in April 2024.

A few days later, she shared that she had gotten back together with her ex Ken Urker. In July, she broke the news she was expecting their first child. Blanchard and Anderson finalised their divorce last month.

On a more glam side, she appeared in an episode of The Kardashians on Hulu.
