The inauguration will take place on the West Lawn at the United States Capitol in Washington D.C. In 2020, due to COVID-19, President Biden’s inauguration was scaled back as the pandemic kept Americans from attending.

However, preparations for a surge of visitors are already underway as the public hasn’t been able to participate since Trump’s last Presidential Inauguration in 2017.

If you’re away from your TV, the likes of The New York Times, CNBC and The Washington Post are expected to live stream the event on their YouTube channels, as they have for past inaugurations – if you’re feeling nostalgic. The White House’s own live stream is another likely option to catch all the proceedings unfold.

CNN usually offers a live watchalong on its Facebook page for anybody who wants to get interactive and chat with other people watching live in tandem. Meanwhile on X (formerly Twitter), trending hashtags will give you the quickest look at breaking news from first-hand witnesses in Washington D.C.

Trump will be the first president sworn in with U.S. flags lowered to half-mast. The move is a way of honouring former president Jimmy Carter, who died December 29 at age 100.

It was an order from current President Joe Biden and shows that the country is still in mourning, with an official national day of mourning set for 9 January, 2025.

Flags will remain at half-mast for 30 days from the day Carter died, and there’s nothing Trump can do to change it – much to his frustration. Taking to his own media site Truth Social, Trump wrote: “Nobody wants to see this, and no American can be happy about it. Let’s see how it plays out. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
