In a galaxy far, far away…there is an abundance of new Star Wars stories waiting to break out.

When Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, the galaxy expanded beyond its original prequel and sequel trilogies, with 5 new feature films, the latest being Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.

With the films also came a plethora of live action and animated TV shows – more than a Wookiee has hairs.

President of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy – who was promoted to the position in 2012 – has been churning out productions, and the good news for Star Wars fans is that  there’s plenty more to come.

Here’s every upcoming film and tv show that’s on the way.

Andor Season 2

Andor’s first Emmy-nominated season of 12 episodes is set to be followed by a second and final season of 12, completing rebel spy Cassian Andor’s story.

The much-anticipated second season will bring us up to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in the Star Wars timeline. Fans are already speculating what Rogue One characters could possibly show up.

It is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on 22 April, 2025.

The Mandalorian & Grogu

Before another season of The Mandalorian, it looks like we’ll get Din Djarin and Grogu – ‘Baby Yoda’ to most – in their big screen debuts first.

The Mandalorian & Grogu film was first teased at the D3 2024 showcase and finished filming later that year. It will be the first live-action Star Wars film to hit theaters since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker.

Director Jon Favreau excited for the film’s release, speaking at D3: “I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created. The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

The movie is set to be released on 22 May 22, 2026 in the United States.

The Mandalorian Season 4

The Mandolorian & Grogu film has made it tricky to predict when the next season of the helmet-wearing bounty hunter will drop.

Favreau confirmed a script for season 4 has been written, but ultimately its fate seems undecided.

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision newsletter, the success of the movie could determine whether or not another series gets made. Mando’s story could continue to be told on the big screen instead, but only time will tell.

Dawn of the Jedi

Director James Mangold is taking fans back approximately 25,000 years before the events of New Hope to tell the origin story of the first Jedi.

Mangold – whose latest film A Complete Unknown, which  explores the rise of Bob Dylan – explained his vision for the new film.

Speaking to Screen Rant, he said: “…I thought about a Biblical epic, like a Ten Commandments, about the dawning of the Force. Where did the Force come from, when did we discover it, when did we learn how to use it?”

His Dawn of the Jedi film is expected to start shooting in 2025, with a release likely coming in 2027.

X-Men writer and producer, Simon Kinberg, is set to write and produce a new trilogy of Star Wars films. It is reported that it will introduce a new saga, moving away from the Skywalker narrative.

Kinberg is no stranger to Lucasfilm, having co-created the animated series Star Wars: Rebel.

As of now, specific details about the plot and release dates for this new trilogy have not been revealed.

Taika Waititi’s Star Wars Movie

It was announced back in 2020 – on 4 May, naturally – that director Taika Waititi is working on a new Star Wars live-action movie.

Specific details are under wraps, but according to producer Kennedy: “Taika is still working away. He’s writing the script himself and he really doesn’t want to bring others into the process, and I don’t blame him. He has a very, very unique voice. So I want to protect that and that’s what he’s doing, but we’re going to make that one day.”

Waiti’s injection of humour and unique style shown in the Thor films brings high hopes that he can also bring a fresh approach to Star Wars on the big screen.

Dave Filoni’s Star Wars Movie

Dave Filoni’s Star Wars project was expected to tie together the likes of The Mandalorian, Ahsoka and The Book of Boba Fett, but with The Mandalorian & Grogu set for release first, there’s now some uncertainty.

Reports are suggesting that if the Mando film flops, Filoni’s crossover film could be re-imagined for the TV series format.

However the project takes form, it is confirmed that Ahsoka’s Eman Esfandi will feature as Ezra Bridger.

Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie

Shawn Levy – director of Deadpool & Wolverine – is slated to direct an upcoming Star Wars film.

He told Variety: “When Kathy Kennedy brought me on board to make a Star Wars movie, her central mandate to me was: ‘I want a Shawn Levy movie. I want a story and a tone that reflects you and your taste and what you bring to your movies — with a Star Wars story.’ So I have felt extremely empowered.”

Levy has confirmed that he is developing the story with Adam Project screenwriter Jonathan Tropper, but no further details have been revealed.

Solo: A Star Wars Story star Donald Glover is expected to reprise his role as Lando Calrissian for a spin-off project.

For a time, this was going to follow the likes of Ahsoka and The Mandalorian, and be the new Disney+ series, but it is now being planned as a movie, according to Variety.

Donald and his brother Stephen were approached by Disney and Lucasfilm to replace writer Justin Simien, but it’s seemingly been slow to take off with Glover focusing on other projects.

Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins is in active development and working on a film draft for Lucasfilm. Rogue Squadron is set to be a loose adaptation of the novel and video game series.

Speaking on the Talking Pictures Podcast, Jenkins said “The emotion of Star Wars and what it stands for is something so beautiful in this world. Star Wars was born out of World War II … so in that way I’ve always wanted to make a fighter pilot movie. …”

The story is expected to introduce a new generation of starfighter pilots, but it remains to be seen.

In 1985 there was an animated Star Wars television series called Droids. It featured R2-D2 and C-3PO and followed them on adventures to other planets.

It is the only Star Wars project to place droids at the center of the story, that is until now.

Star Wars: A Droid Story is a new animated film announced by Lucasfilm on 10 December, 2020. Development is being handled by Industrial Light & Magic, as well as Lucasfilm Animation.

There’s been no significant updates on the project, but here’s what Lucasfilm President Kennedy said about it:

“As we continue to develop new stories, the intersection of animation and visual effects offers new opportunities for us to explore.”

“This epic journey will introduce us to a new hero guided by our most iconic duo…on a secret mission known only to them. What could possibly go wrong?”.
