- Mackie and Ford star in Captain America: Brave New World
- Mackie’s Sam Wilson character takes over the Captain America mantle in latest MCU blockbuster
- Ford gave Mackie priceless words of advice during filming

Even with over 20 years acting experience under his belt, Anthony Mackie still appreciates a little timely advice every now and again. Especially when it comes from one of the most iconic names in the business.
Mackie, who will take over the role of Captain America in the upcoming MCU blockbuster, Captain America: Brave New World, will star alongside Harrison Ford, making his Marvel debut as a fresh faced 82-year-old.
And when you’re sharing a set with the man who breathed life into Indiana Jones, Rick Deckard, Dr. Richard Kimble and Han Solo, chances are you will pick up a thing or two and almost certainly have an anecdote or two to share after the experience.
During an exclusive sit down with Pubity, alongside Brave New World co-star Danny Ramirez, Mackie shared a story from his first day on-set alongside the octogenarian all-star.
“The first day of shooting, we were doing a board room scene. And I was really nervous because I was on set with Harrison Ford,” recalls Mackie of opening day as Captain America, “So we come into the scene, he says his line, I flubbed my line and then I bumped into the table and knocked a glass off.
“So he could tell that I was nervous. So he pulled me to one side and said, ‘take it easy, kid. You’ve earned it. Enjoy it.’ I was like, ‘that’s really nice, Harrison Ford.’ And then after that it was just a cool breeze. Just him giving me the vote of confidence to know that he’s seen my work and he knows what I can do, so I should live up to my full potential, was kind of awesome.”
Don’t know about you, but getting pulled to one side and being given a “listen kid” arm-around-the-shoulder pep talk from ACTUAL HARRISON FORD would be enough to have us karate kicking brick walls into rubble. Imagine the rush you would have not just for the rest of that day, but for the remainder of your life. Enough adrenaline to power half of Europe until at least 2049.
While Anthony Mackie is evolving from Falcon into Captain America in the new film, Ford will be portraying Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross and, in turn, will transform into Red Hulk, which feels appropriate for 82-year-old curmudgeon Harrison Ford to be playing.
Danny Ramirez, meanwhile, fantasy cast a future character for the MCU, revealing that he’d like to see Tom Cruise play a ‘conflicted villian’ in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Captain America: Brave New World hits cinemas this Friday, February 14.
