The 2025 Major League Baseball season is only a little over a month away from commencing so, naturally, we’ve got a whole heap of MLB Spring Training to immerse ourselves in between now and then.

Regular season games will technically begin on March 18 and 19 with the Tokyo Series, played out between World Series champions the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs, in the Tokyo Dome. The rest of the league will open their 2025 campaigns on March 27.

But before opening day, we’ve got a month solid of Grapefruit and Cactus League action to devour in Florida and Arizona, respectively.

Free Agency Signings Make First Impressions

Up until two days before opening day, every team across the American and National Leagues (with the exception of the Tokyo bound Dodgers and Cubs, of course) will limber up across almost five weeks of preseason ballgames, giving fans a chance to see their new free agent signings being put through their paces, such as the New York Mets’ record breaking arrival Juan Soto, the Dodgers latest Japanese phenom Roki Sasaki and $182m pick up Blake Snell.

Not to mention Arizona fans casting an eye over Corbin Burnes as a Diamondback for the first time, while much will be expected of $120m man Alex Bregman by Red Sox fans, after the third baseman left the Houston Astros at the back end of 2024. Oh, and of course, there’s Yankees fans hoping to see enough from their new $218m pitcher Max Fried to recover from the loss of Soto.

Spring Breakout 2025

A new tradition will also continue into its second year during this year’s MLB Spring Training, with Spring Breakout returning after debuting in 2024. The showcase of baseball’s future stars will take place between March 13-16, with clubs assembling their hottest prospects to face each other in exhibition games. March 13 will see a pair of match ups played between top-10 farm systems as ranked by MLB Pipeline. The top ranked prospects of the Rays and the Red Sox will go head-to-head in Port Charlotte, Florida before the Cubs and Dodgers prospects square off in Glendale, Arizona. The following day prospects from the Seattle Mariners and Cleveland Guardians will meet in Goodyear, Arizona.

Since last year’s Spring Breakout, 95 players have turned out in the majors after showing out last March. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, 48 of the 54 All-Stars Futures Game roster for 2024 was made up of players from the inaugural Breakout.
