A second Dexter sequel isn’t far off – and now one of the show’s big stars has confirmed whether she’ll appear.

Announced last summer, Dexter: Resurrection should finally show fans how the serial killer’s fate panned out after Dexter: New Blood. It will premiere later this year.

Jennifer Carpenter portrayed Dexter’s adoptive sister Debra in the series and also appeared in Dexter: New Blood. However, she has now confirmed that she won’t be returning for the new spin-off.

“I am pretty focused where I am, and I feel like I’ve completed that box. I’m proud of it,” Carpenter told People. “I hope that they’re having a wonderful time,” she added, referring to the cast and crew working on the project. “And I’m so happy for the fans to have more to chew on.”

There haven’t been many new details about the show’s cast but we do know that Uma Thurman has signed on to play a new character.

Thurman will play Charley, the Head of Security for billionaire Leon Prater. Her character description reads: “Charley is the Head of Security for mysterious billionaire Leon Prater. A former Special Ops officer, she worked various high-level private security jobs before becoming Prater’s resourceful and meticulous right-hand woman.”

Of course, we also know that Michael C. Hall is returning as the titular character. His co-star Jack Alcott, who plays Dexter’s son were spotted on set recently, indicating he will return.

Several other Dexter veterans have also confirmed their returns. James Remar will reprise his role as Dexter’s deceased father, Harry Morgan. Meanwhile David Zayas will return as the fan-favorite Detective Angel Batista.

At San Diego Comic-Con, Hall revealed that Resurrection will “pick up right where we left off.”

Created by Clive Phillips, who also developed New Blood, Resurrection will hopefully address the cliffhangers left for characters like Dexter’s teenage son Harrison (Jack Alcott) Sheriff Angela Bishop (Julia Jones), and the serial killer himself.

A specific release date for Dexter: Resurrection hasn’t been announced. However, Paramount confirmed the show was set for a summer 2025 release. Other rumors have said the release date will be in June 2025, but there is no confirmation yet.
